Abstract
In a teaseling device for teaseling at least one textile thread 1 by passing it against a rough surface of a rotary member 2, the thread 1 is drawn by a pair of draw rollers 3, 4 through a central hole 13 of the rotary member 2. The rough surface is situated on a surface of revolution extending over a distance from the end of the central hole, e.g. provided by the upper surface of a circular mill stone 12, the rollers 3, 4 being arranged adjacent and to one side of the said end of the hole 13, so ensuring that the thread 1, rubs against the rough surface. This ensures uniform teaseling of the thread, and where multiple threads are treated simultaneously they are twisted together and can be used, e.g. for knitting, without further treatment. The rough surface may be provided with grains of abrasive matter, scratches, projecting points or wires embedded in the surface. The upper end of hole 13 may be flared. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Textile thread teaseling device
Specification
This invention relates to a textile thread teaseling device for teaseling a textile thread by passing it over a rough surface of a rotary member, the thread being drawn by a pair of draw rollers.
In known devices of this kind, the rough surfaces are rotary cylindrical surfaces which the thread contacts while moving past, either along generatrices of the surfaces, or obliquely relative to these generatrices; the result is that the thread does not twist on itself when passing into the device and that the teaseling effect is more pronounced on certain portions of the surface of the thread than on others.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved teaseling device of this kind so as to obviate or minimise the aforesaid disadvantage of the known devices.
To this end, in accordance with the invention, the rotary member is penetrated axially by a central hole and the rough surface is situated on a surface of revolution extending over a distance from one end of the central hole, the pair of rollers being arranged to one side of the said end of the central hole and aside from the axis of this hole, so that the thread, which enters by the other end of the hole, rubs against the rough surface of revolution.
Because of this particular structure, the thread twists on itself whilst passing into the device, since the portion of the surface of revolution against which it rubs shifts in a direction which is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the thread. The thread is therefore teaseled uniformly over its entire surface; in addition, if several assembled threads are caused to pass into the device simultaneously, the false twist to which they are subjected by rubbing against the surface of revolution has the effect of binding the threads together to a greater or lesser extent, which allows them to be used subsequently, without twisting, for example for knitting.
Since the device is of a very simple structure, it can easily be incorporated in a winding machine or n a spinning frame or twisting frame.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a number of embodiments of the thread teaseling device in accordance with the invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of an embodiment of the device of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation illustrating a modification of the rotary member, in the form of a flared funnel;
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation illustrating another modification constituted by an internal cylinder;
Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation illustrating yet another modification, of toric shape; and
Figs. 5A, 58; 6A, 6B and 7A, 7B illustrate, respectively in section and in top plan view, three further modifications of the rotary member.
The teaseling device for a textile thread 1, shown in Fig. 1, comprises a rotary member 2 and a pair of draw rollers 3, 4 as well as a pair of delivery rollers 5, 6 but these latter are optional.
The thread 1 winds off from a bobbin 7. In this example, the axis of the rotary member 2 is vertical and the delivery rollers 5, 6 are arranged below the said rotary member 2, on opposite sides of the axis of this latter, whilst the draw rollers 3, 4 are arranged so that the thread 1 , drawn by the rollers 3, 4, rubs over the surface of revolution.
The rotary member 2 is supported by a bearing 9, preferably a ball bearing, a needle bearing or a roller bearing, or the like, itself carried by a frame 9. The rotary member 2 is driven rotationally by a friction belt 10 which extends over a pulley 11 integral with the said rotary member 2.
The surface of revolution is rough and, in this example, is formed of particles of abrasive material provided by a pierced millstone 12 fixed on the upper portion of the rotary member 2. This millstone could be replaced, for example, by a disc of emery cloth.
In operation, the thread 1, drawn by the draw rollers 3, 4 through hole 13 in the member 2 when rotating, rubs against the abrasive surface of revolution; it rolls at the same time on itself, so that it is teaseled uniformly over its entire surface.
The teaseling effect is a function of the tension of the thread, and of the speed of displacement of the abrasive surface relative to the thread; the greater these values, the greater is the teaseling effect.
The speed of displacement of the abrasive surface relative to the thread can be very great, since the rotary member 2 can be very light and turn very rapidly. The tension of the thread determines its pressure against the abrasive surface, and is a function of the relative rotations of the draw rollers 3,4 and of the delivery rollers 5, 6.
Of course, the roughness of the surface of revolution can be obtained by means other than a millstone or a disc of emery cloth. For example it could be provided by grains of abrasive matter sealed onto the surface of revolution, or by scores or scratches 1 4 formed in the said surface of revolution (Figs. 5A and 5B), or by points 1 5 planted into and projecting from the surface of revolution (Figs. 6A and 6B), or by "sawtooth" wires 1 6 embedded into and projecting from the said surface (Figs. 7A and 7B).
It will be noted that what is important for the course of movement of the thread 1 is that it be directed in such a way that the thread 1 is rubbed by the portion of the abrasive surface deemed useful for the effect to be obtained. For example in the "flared funnel" shape (Fig. 2) one can determine this useful portion by varying the direction of the drawing; the same is possible in the "torus" form of Fig. 4.
