Electrically-actuated valves. - Relates to apparatus of the class in which a liquid-control valve is opened automatically by the closing of an electric circuit through a solenoid, and is closed by gravity or spring influence when the circuit is interrupted, the circuit being under the control of a switch which is actuated by the act of moving a container into the filling position and removing it from such position. Instead of connecting the valve to the core of the solenoid by a coupling-rod, a plunger which acts in the two-fold capacity of a valve and a core is provided, the plunger being operated by electric energy excited in a solenoid and transmitted through the substance of the container forming the valve casing. The solenoid coil C surrounds the valve casing F, which is made of non-magnetic material. The plunger H is made partly or wholly of iron, and the outlet nozzle L with the valve-seat G may be screwed into the casing F, which is connected with the inlet at I. A plate N through which the nozzle L passes is hinged at M to a bracket fixed to the nozzle and at its free end carries a hinged rod 0. When a bottle is placed under the nozzle and pushed upwards against the plate N, the rod 0 enters between the contacts B, D and completes the main circuit or opens a shunt circuit so that the solenoid C is energized and the plunger H lifted off its seat. The plunger may be made as a tube with only slight clearance in the tube F and with apertures K to allow of the passage of liquid. The end of the plunger may be made of rubber, metal, or other material suitable for the liquid used and adapted to make a close seating. The apparatus is suitable for controlling the flow of hot liquids and especially those which are of a corrosive character.
