Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for producing plastering mortar and applying it by spraying This invention relates to apparatus for producing plastering mortar and applying it by spraying, comprising a mixer, adapted to be charged from a storage container, for receiving dry constituents of the mortar and mixing them with water, and above which is a pump which is arranged axially relative to the mixer and which is driven therefrom for further conveying the mortar, a motor, provided at its top with a cooling air ventilator, for driving the mixer and, at the same time, the pump, and provided with an air compressor, in which a spraying nozzle is connectable, by way of a mortar line, to the pump and by way of a propulsion air line to the air compressor.
Apparatus of this kind was introduced more than a decade ago, and has been the subject of constant development ever since. Despite endeavours to minimise the overall height and also otherwise to make the apparatus as compact and light as possible in design, the basic arrangement has always remained approximately the same, comprising the pump, a mixing chamber including a filling hopper and a driving motor for both above one another, a storage container therebeside or thereabove, and an air compressor at the bottom next to the mixer under the storage container.
The problem underlying the invention is to minimise the weight and volume of apparatus of the kind designated at the beginning hereof.
In accordance with the invention, for this purpose, provision is made for the fact that the air compressor is arranged above the motor and is driven by the latter.
Thus, the motor previously needed for driving the air compressor is eliminated. For this reason, the motor for the mixer and the pump, which now also drives the air compressor, does not need to be larger. The overall height is increased only negligibly, since the air compressor, in the preferred form of a rotary compressor, may be designed so as to be relatively flat.
The invention also affords a series of further advantages, as follows:- The difficulties which may arise from the arrangement of the air compressor including a separate driving motor in the wet region of the apparatus, more especially the possible fouling and incrustation of the motor cooling ribs with mortar, which impairs cooling of the motor, are done away with; the driving motor for the mixer and the pump lies thereabove in a dry region and is moreover easily accessible for keeping clean, maintenance and so forth, which, what is more, now also applies to the air compressor. Other accessories can be accommodated in the space which has become free, in a space-saving manner, and also in a manner facilitating maintenance; such accessories may, for example, be water fittings, or a tool box. Finally, it is positively advantageous that the air compressor, because of its dependence on the driving motor of the mixer, and that the pump is no longer operable on its own. Previously the complete unit was usable independently of the mixer, and was susceptible to being stolen.
Operating reliability is improved, and expen-diture is reduced. The coupling, in the arrangement in accordance with the invention, of the air compressor with the driving motor of the mixer, and possibly of the pump, has the result that, when the preparation of the mortar and the supply thereof to the spraying nozzle is switched off, the compressed air, production of which continued in the prior proposals, is switched off. Unnecessary noise disturbance is, therefore, now abolished.
In order to be able to retain the usual possiblilty of switching-off of the mortar preparation and supply to the nozzle as a result of increase in pressure in the air line from the spraying nozzle, one must replace, in the latter, the switch-off valve which was effective only to narrow the cross-section of the air line, by a tightly-closing valve, and also keep airtight the air line system, especially the connections thereof. Test show this to be possible to a satisfactory extent; the increased switchoff pressure can last longer than half an hour, the machine (or engine) then starting up just quite briefly to build up the necessary switchoff pressure once more, almost instantaneously.
The coupling of the air compressor with the mixer and the mortar pump, on the other hand, has the advantages that, when the pump is at a standstill, noise disturbance from the air compressor, which continues to run, diminishes, the wear thereof is reduced and no special electrical connections including fuses, cables, couplings and so forth, are necessary; in addition to this, correctness of the electrical connections i.e. for correct direction of rotation of the mortar pump, can be checked quite simply, reliably or safely, and rapidly from the direction of the air current.
Preferably the air compressor is arranged under a common head with the cooling air ventilator and is fastened to the motor housing, for example screwed-on by way of distance pieces.
The invention will be described further, by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a preferred embodiment of the apparatus of the invention; Figure 2 is a side elevation of the apparatus of Fig. 1, the view being taken from the left hand side of Fig. 1; Figure 3 is another side elevation of the apparatus of Fig. 1, this view being taken from the right hand side of Fig. 1; Figure 4 is a plan view of the apparatus of Figs. 1 to 3; Figure 5 is an enlarged view illustrating the upper portion of the apparatus of Figs. 1 to 4 with the hood cut open; and Figure 6 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 5, but with certain parts omitted.
The illustrated preferred embodiment of the apparatus of the invention comprises a machine chassis 2 which is mobile by reason of it being mounted on lockable rollers 1, carried on the chassis 2, beside a storage container 3, is a mixing and pumping unit 4.
The mixing and pumping unit 4 comprises a mixer 5 which is provided with a filling hopper 8 which is supplemented by a housing 7, an eccentric worm pump 9 which is added at the bottom to the mixer 5, and a motor 10 superimposed at the top onto the housing 7 and having a gearing 11.
A feed wheel, not shown, pushes the material along a flat oblique surface 1 2 of the storage container 3 upwards through an opening in the housing 7 of the filling hopper 8.
So far the construction is fundamental and is known from German Patent Specification No. 24 07 657 and described in more detail there. The housing 7 is fitted with a lid 1 8 which is swingable about an axis 16, which is provided with handles 17, which carries the geared motor 10, 11, and which is held on the housing in its closing position by a closure 18, as well as a grating 20 with a serrated blade 21 for the laying-on and tearing-open of sacks (not shown) of plaster material, a tool chest 22 on one side of the mixer and, on the other side, water fittings 23 and switching mechanisms 24.
Instead of the independent compressor unit arranged in the past at the place of the parts 23, 24 in accordance with the present invention an air compressor 25 (Fig. 5). is situated on the motor 10. In Figs. 1 to 4 this compressor is covered by a hood or cowling 26, but in Figs. 5 and 6 it is'shown in detail to a larger scale.
The air compressor 25 is a rotary compressor It comprises a cylindrical housing including a base plate 27, a side wall 29 studded with cooling ribs 28, and a cover plate 30 (omitted from Fig. 6), is supported and fastened on the hood or cowling of the motor 10 by way of a support cross 31, tubular distance pieces 32, and screws 33 through the latter. The rotor 35, fitted with blades 34 of the compressor, is connected to the motor shaft by an izntermediate shaft 36 which is only indicated in dot-dash manner in the drawing and on which is a ventilator having eight ventilator blades 37. The air compressor 25 sucks in ambient air through a filter 38 and forces the compressed air out through a line 39 which leads to a connection 40 for a compressed air line (Fig. 1).
The ambient air flows into the alreadymentioned hood 26 through an air inlet 41 which is provided at the upper side thereof.
That part of this air which does not flow through the compressor is blown out downwards as cooling air for the motor 10 by the ventilator blades 37 between the cooling ribs of the motor housing.
Also the ventilator and the hood form part of the known apparatus. The arrangement, in accordance with the invention, of the air compressor 25 requires na more than a somewhat enlarged space under the hood. It can readily also be accomplished subsequently on existing machines.
As is customary, a spraying nozzle is connected by way of a compressed air hose to the connection 1 4 and a mortar hose to the connection 1 5. A small change, caused by the invention, to the switching system has already been explained exhaustively above.
