Abstract

Apparatus for measuring the length of shots on a golf course comprising a distance measuring meter 6 carried by an arm 2 pivoted to a bracket 1, clamped to a club trolley adjacent a wheel thereon, the meter being driven by a spindle carrying a wheel 9 for contacting a trolley wheel B to register on the meter the length of the stroke. A spring 4 holds the wheel 9 against wheel B or spaced from it. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Measuring apparatus in the game of golf This invention relates to measuring apparatus for attachment to a golf club trolley.
In the game of golf the distance between greens varies and the object of the present invention is to provide a measuring apparatus for attachment to a club trolley for a player to record the length of his drive from the tee and the further strokes for each hole with particulars of the club used for each stroke.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a front view of the apparatus mounted on the leg of a club trolley; Figure 2 shows an enlarged side view of the apparatus to a larger scale.
The apparatus comprises a bracket or clip 1 for attachment to a club trolley, for example, to a supporting leg A, adjacent a wheel B thereon.
The bracket 1 is formed with an arm 2, 21 in two parts pivoted together on a stud 3. A spring 4 extends between two lugs one on each of the arms 2, 21 the arms thus being spring loaded to occupy one of two positions.
The arm 2 is formed with a slot 2a to receive a bracket 5 carrying a distance measuring meter 6 adjustable in the slot 2a and to which it is clamped by a bolt and nut 7. A sprindle 8 for actuating the measuring discs in the meter 6 extends from-one end thereof and a wheel 9 is mounted thereon.
The first bracket 1 is mounted on the club trolley in proximity to one of the ground wheels B on the trolley and is adjusted so that the wheel 9 on the meter spindle 8 engages the periphery of the wheel B on the trolley the arm 2 being pivoted on the bracket to lift the wheel 9 on the spindle out of contact with the trolley wheel when not in use.
The meter 6 is re-set to zero in known manner by a hand wheel 10.
In operation the periphery of the wheel 9 on the meter spindle 8 is positioned in contact with the periphery of a trolley wheel B, and the meter set at zero.
The player drives from the tree and wheels the trolley to the position where his ball has landed and makes a note of the meter reading so that on succeeding games he can consult his notes and decide whether a different club would serve him better.
The meter may then be re-set to zero and the same procedure is carried out for the approach shot.
The wheel 9 on the spindle may have a knurled surface to prevent slipping on the trolley wheel B.
When the measuring apparatus is not required the arm 2 is pivoted substantially 90" to bring the spring 4 over dead centre and the wheels 9 on the meter spindle out of contact with the trolley wheel B.
1. A measuring apparatus for attachment to a golf club trolley comprising an arm forming part of or attached to the bracket, a measuring meter affixed to the arm, the measuring meter being driven by a wheel for contacting a ground wheel on the trolley.
2. A measuring apparatus as in claim 1, in which the arm is formed in two parts pivoted together with a spring for keeping the meter wheel in contact with the trolley wheel or disengaged therefrom.
3. A measuring apparatus as in claim 2 in which one part of the arm is slotted for adjustment of the meter on the trolley wheel.
4. A measuring apparatus as in claims 1 to 3 in which the meter may be pivoted clear of the trolley wheel.
5. A measuring apparatus for attachment to a golf club trolley substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
