Description
SPECIFICATION
A jewellery display device for holding hoopshaped pieces of jewellery
This invention relates to a jewellery display device for holding hoop-shaped pieces of jewellery.
It is known to provide a display device which comprises a vertical support mounted on a cruciform foot, and arms projecting from both sides of the support in one plane, wherein the length of the arms decreases from the bottom to the top, and are used only for holding bangles.
However, since rings corresponding in design to the bangles but substantially smaller in diameter are also made and put onto the market, until now these have been kept or displayed separately from the bangles.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device for holding hoop-shaped pieces of jewellery, which can be used both for holding bangles and for holding rings.
In this connection it is further to be taken into account that devices for holding bangles are already on the market and so, desirably, a solution has to be found so that devices for holding bangles that are already on the market can be adapted in such a way that they can also be used for holding rings. This should also solve the problem of producing a device for holding hoopshaped pieces of jewellery which can be used as and when required either for holding bangles only or for holding both bangles and rings.
According to the invention there is provided a jewellery display device for holding hoop-shaped pieces of jewellery and comprising:
a first carrier for bangles including an upright support, and at least one support arm extending transversely of said support for holding bangles;
a second carrier for holding rings; and
means providing a detachable connection between said first carrier and said second carrier.
Preferably, the second carrier has the same construction as the first carrier, but is reduced in size with respect to this in the ratio of 1:2 to 1:4 and the feet of both these carriers may be connected by a plug connection. This may be achieved by the foot of the carrier for holding bangles being formed by hollow tubes into one of which the foot of the carrier for holding rings can be inserted, and the ends of the other tubes can be closed by caps.
In an alternative arrangement, the second carrier is detachably mounted at the upper end of the upright support of the first carrier, and includes a transversely extending support arm for holding rings.
Two embodiments of jewellery display device according to the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is an exploded view of component parts of a first embodiment; and
Figure 2 is an exploded view of component parts of a second embodiment.
In Figure 1 there is shown a first carrier 1 for bangles 2 which is formed by two intersecting hollow tubes 4 and 5, forming a foot, and a support 9 projecting vertically upwardly from this foot. From the support 6 there project horizontal arms 8, and the distance between one and another is somewhat greater than the diameter of commercial sized bangles. The horizontal arms 8, which are contained in a common vertical plane, have different lengths so that the lowermost arms are the longest and towards the top the arms become shorter. The front ends of the hollow tubes 4 and 5, as well as of the support 6, are closed by caps.7.
Attached to such a carrier 1 for bangles 2 is a second carrier 11 for rings 12 that is similar in its construction but substantially smaller in its ratio, this carrier being formed from a foot 14, a support 1 6 and arms 1 8 projecting from the support 1 6.
The foot 14 is provided with a projection or connecting stub 1 5 which can be inserted into the hollow tube 5, of the carrier 1, after removing one of the covering caps 7 from the hollow tube 5. The carriers 1 and 11 are thus coupled together by a plug and socket-type connection. It will be noted that the spacing-apart of the arms 8 is sufficient to enable bangles 2 to depend from each arm in satisfactory manner, and the same applies to the arms 18 in regard to the rings 12.
In addition, retaining wires 9 and 19 may be provided on the horizontal arms 8 and 1 8 in order to hold the hoop-shaped pieces of jewellery on the arms. The wires 9 and 19 form part of an antitheft device which will respond to unauthorised removal of a piece of jewellery.
As can be seen from the above embodiments, a carrier 1 for receiving bangles 2, which is already on the market, can be adapted by adding a carrier 11 for receiving rings 12 in such a way that these two carriers are used as one unit for holding and displaying both bangles and rings. In addition, these carriers can also be put on the market independently of one another, or can be used for holding bangles or rings, or can be used in combination for holding bangles and rings.
In Figure 2, there is also shown a carrier for holding bangles, or for holding bangles and rings.
This consists of a foot 30 from which project vertical supports 31 and 34 which are formed by hollow shaped tubes. From these supports 31 and 34 project further horizontal arms 32 and 35 respectively which are used for holding bangles 2.
In order to be able to use such a carrier also for holding rings 12 and additionally for holding an increased number of bangles 2, there are provided further horizontal arms 33 and 36 for holding bangles, and arms 37 and 38 projecting at right angles from arms 33 and 36, which parts can be inserted into the hollow profiles of the vertical supports 31 and 34 by means of projections or connector stubs (pins) 39. The free ends of the tubes are covered by end caps 40. The carrier arms are preferably provided with a flock covering to protect the jewellery from scratching.
Thus there is disclosed embodiments of jewellery display stands which can be used optionally for holding bangles or for holding bangles and rings, wherein means is provided for detachably connecting together the individual components, comprised by a plug and socket-type connection.
The term "bangle" used herein refers to hoopshaped pieces of jewellery which may be worn on the wrist and which are usually rigid, but also includes bracelets (which may be rigid or flexible) and chains.
