Abstract

An electric fan includes a housing 21 divided by a partition 213 into a first room 222 for receiving a drive motor 22 and a second room 223 communicating with the first room; impeller blades 24 provided within the first room 222 are mounted at one end of a shaft of the motor, and draw in cool air through apertures 211 in the housing 21; the air cools the motor 22 and passes through a gap 214 to reach a discharging pipe 25 connected to an outlet 216 of the second room 223; air discharged from pipe 25 is directed well away from the air-stream produced by the main impeller blades 23 of the fan. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improved apparatus for an electric fan The present invention relates to an improved apparatus for exhausting the heated air within a motor housing of an electric fan, more particularly, to an apparatus which can exhaustthe heated air generated as a result of long rotation of the motor and stored within the motor housing so as to prevent the exhausted air being flowed into an inlet of the electric fan by rotation of impellers of the electric fan and to further keep a high cooling efficiency.
There are many kinds of electric fans known in this art. Figure 1 shows a sectional view of one of the most popular conventional fans in which a motor housing 11 as shown has a plurality of air vents 111 and 112 provided respectively at the front and the rear sides thereof, the air surrounding the motor housing 1 may be taken into the housing 11 via the air vents 111 to cool the motor 12 or may be exhausted out of the housing 11 via the air vents 112 when the impellers 13 mounted at one end of a motor shaft 121 are actuated. However, the cooling efficiency of the conventional electric fan is lowered when it has been running for a long time. In other words, the temperature of the motor 12 will reach a high value when the motor has been rotating so long that the air stored within the housing 11 gets heated.
Thus, if the heated air is exhausted out of the housing 11 through the air vents 112 and blown into the inlet of the impellers 13, the cooling efficiency of the electric fan will be reduced.
In addition, one may feel the air flow swept out of the electric fan is not cool but warm when the temperature of the motor is very high.
The present invention resides in an apparatus for removing the heated air stored within a motor housing of an electric fan and preventing the removed heated air from flowing into an inlet of impellers of the electric fan. The apparatus includes a housing divided into a first room for receiving the driving motor of the electric fan and a second room for discharging the heated air therein by a partition, an exhausting pipe connected to an outlet of the second room, and an intake device mounted at one end of the motor shaft. In accordance with the present invention, a number of air vents are pro vided on the rear side of the first room and opposed to the intake device mounted on the motor shaft, and, a through way is provided at a position between the first room and the second room. The first room and the second room are closed except the air vents provided at the rear side of the first room, the through way provided therebetween, and the outlet of the second room, so that when the motor is driven the cool air in the atmosphere may be taken into the first room through the air vents to reduce the temperature of the motor and, then, flow into the second room through the through way to be ex hausted through the exhausting pipe to a place where it can not be flown into the inlet of the impellers of the electric fan. Therefore, an electric fan adopted with the apparatus of the present invention can keep a constant high cooling efficien cy. Preferrably, the through way is provided at the front portion of the rooms, and, the outlet is located at the rear portion of the second room.Accordingly, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide an improved apparatus for an electric fan which enables the electric fan to keep a high cooling efficiency.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for an electric fan wherein an intake device is provided at one end of the motor shaft for enhancing the intake effect so as to reduce the temperature of the motor assuredly.
The above and other objects and features of the present invention will appear more clearly hereinaf tes from a consideration of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein an embodiment is illustrated by way of example.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of a conventional electric fan, and Figure2 is a sectional view of an electric fan provided with a preferred embodiment of the pre sent invention.
As illustrated in Figure 2, a preferred embodiment of the present invention is mounted on a support arm 26 of a stand 19 of an electric fan 20. The examplary embodiment of the present invention as disclosed in Figure 2 comprises a housing 21, intake impellers 24, and a discharging pipe 25. The housing 21 is divided into a motor room 222 for receiving a driving motor 22 of the electric fan and a discharging room 223 by a division plate 213. Provided on the rear side of the motor room 222 are a number of air vents 211 for communicating with the atmosphere.
One end of the division plate 213 is apart from the front side of the housing 21 so as to define a through way 214 located between the rooms 222 and 223.
The intake impellers 24 are mounted at one end of a motor shaft 221 close to the rear side of the motor room 222 and opposed to impellers 23 which are mounted on the other end of the motor shaft 221 outside the housing 21. The upper end of the discharging pipe 25 is connected to an outlet 216 of the discharging room 223, the outlet 216 being preferrably located at the rear side of the discharging room 223. In order to secure the lower end of the discharging pipe 25 to a position where the heated air exhausted therefrom can not be flowed to an inlet of the impellers 23 of the electric fan, a secure device 252 is provided on the support arm 26 of the electric fan to secure the discharging pipe 25.Consequently, when the driving motor 22 is actuated by turning a switch of the electric source to an ON position, the cool air in the atmosphere will be taken through the air vents 211 into the motor room 222 by the rotation of the intake impellers 24 to reduce the temperature of the driving motor 22, and then, discharged through the through way 214, outlet 216 of the discharging room 223, and the discharging pipe 25 to a suitable place where it can be flowed into the inlet of the impellers 23 of the electric fan.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application of the details to construction and arrangement of parts as illustrated in Figure 2, since the present invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in various ways. Also it is to be understood that the phraselogy or terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation.
