Description
SPECIFICATION
Cleaning apparatus, respectively cleaning device therefore
The invention relates to a cleaning apparatus,
respectively to a cleaning device therefore with a holder provided with a grip, in the longitudinal direction of which a strip of elastic material projecting from this holder is provided.
Cleaning apparatuses for surfaces, especially window panes, are generally known. These, however, consist of a holder, in the longitudinal direction of which only an elastic strip of rubber or synthetic material is provided. This implies the drawback that the panes must first be washed with a sponge soaked with a cleaning liquid, e.g. water, whereafter they are dried with the elastic strip of the cleaning device instead of with a chamois leather.
This drawback is avoided by the cleaning apparatus, respectively the cleaning device according to the present invention, in that parallel to this strip of elastic material a brush is provided, at the rear end of which there is a supply line provided with a number of supply holes for supplying a cleaning liquid to this brush, which supply line is connected to a source of cleaning liquid under pressure.
In that cleaning liquid can be supplied to the brush during the cleaning and in that the front edge of the elastic strip can be brought in contact with the cleaned surface or a part thereof, the whole cleaning operation can be carried out without interruption with one and the same cleaning device, so that a considerable amount of time is saved.
As the cleaning liquid is supplied to a brush, the cleaning liquid can easily flow between or along the hairs of the brush also when both the brush and the elastic strip are pressed simultaneously against the surface to be cleaned, so that always sufficient cleaning liquid is supplied to the surface to be cleaned to clean it properly in spite of the fast cleaning operation.
As it is not necessary usually to supply cleaning liquid to the brush constantly during the cleaning, the holder may comprise, according to the invention, a closing means for the supply line of the cleaning liquid. This closing means is provided preferably with a spring, which tries to move it to its closed position. Thus the supply of the right quantity of cleaning liquid to the cleaning device is realized in a simple and easy way.
According to the invention, the source of the cleaning liquid under pressure may consist of a tank, which is provided with a manually operated air pump, with a supply which can be closed and a discharge which can be closed, for the cleaning liquid.
For the cleaning of window panes, this tank may be stationed on the ground floor and be connected to the cleaning device by means of a long flexible hose.
The tank may be of such large dimensions that it can contain a large quantity of cleaning liquid.
When it is desirable, however, to use a cleaning apparatus of such a weight that it is easy to handle, the tank may have the shape of a bucket with a handle, the device having a storage space, which is
separated airp roof from this tank, for a chamois
leather, a sponge and/or other articles for cleaning
surfaces.
According to the invention, the brush may be
mounted in the holder in such a way, that the hairs thereof are in contact with the surface to be cleaned
before the front edge of the elastic strip can come in contact with this surface.
Preferably the brush hairs have such a length and consist of such a material, that they are bent elastically when the elastic strip is in contact with the surface to be cleaned.
The invention will be explained hereinafter with
reference to the drawing, in which, by means of example, two embodiments of the cleaning apparatus and the cleaning device according to the
invention are shown.
In the drawing: -Figure 1 shows an apparatus with a largetankfor cleaning liquid, which is connected to the cleaning device by means of a long flexible hose, -Figure 2 shows a section along the line Il-Il of Figure 1, and -Figure 3 shows an easy to handle tank for a cleaning apparatus according to the invention.
The cleaning apparatus shown in Figure 1 comprises a cleaning device 1, which is connected by means of a flexible hose 2 of rubber or a synthetic material to the outlet 3 of a tank4, which during the use of the apparatus is filled partly with a cleaning liquid, e.g. water, and in which a quantity of pressurized air is present above the liquid surface. For dilling the tank with a sufficient quantity of compressed air, the tank is provided with a manually operated air pump which, if so desired, is mounted in a detachable way in an opening in the wall of the tank. This allows the air pump to be removed from the tank wall, so that the opening thus created in the tank wall can be used for filling the tank with cleaning liquid.
After the tank has been filled, the air pump 6 is put in its place again and air is supplied to the tank. In the tank a safety valve 7 is provided which, when the required pressure of the air above the liquid surface has been reached, is activated.
The cleaning device 1 comprises a holder 8 with a grip 9. In the holder8 a brush 10 is mounted, which is shown only partly in Figure 1. In the holder 9 is also mounted, parallel or almost parallel to this brush 10, a strip 11 of rubber of synthetic material, which also extends itself in the longitudinal direction of the holder and which during the use of the cleaning device is situated above the brush 10 in the holder 8.
The holder 8 furthermore comprises a tube 12, which has a number of interspaced openings 13 for supplying the cleaning liquid to the brush 10. In order to show these supply holes 13, the tube 12 has been turned over an angle of approximately 90 .
The hairs of the brush 10 have such a length and consist of such an elastic material, that they are bent elastically when the cleaning device is in such a position against the surface to be cleaned, that the outer edge of the strip 11 lies against this surface. Because of this length of the brush hairs, they may yet have the required stiffness to assure a good cleaning of the surface to be cleaned.
Figure 3 shows a tank 14 in the shape of a bucket with a handle 15, in which, separated air proof from this tank, a storage space 16 is provided for the cleaning device, a chamois leather, a sponge and/or other articles for cleaning surfaces. This tank, just like the tank 4 according to Figure 1, has an air pump 6 and an outlet 3 for the cleaning liquid in the tank, which can be connected to the cleaning device shown in Figure 1 by means of the flexible hose 2.
It will be obvious that the invention is not restricted to the embodiments shown in the drawing of the tank for the cleaning liquid or to the cleaning device shown in the drawing, but that numerous modifications are possible without leaving the scope of the invention.
