Abstract

206,758. Scott, A. C. Jan. 27, 1923. Shafts.-Rear axle casings for motor-road vehicles are made from a heated tube S, Fig. 1, with its central and larger portion longitudinally slit, by enlarging and shaping the slit portion. The slit is enlarged by fixed and movable blades U<1>, U<2>, Fig. 7, and then the tube is placed between fixed and detachable dies A, B, Fig. 9, and smaller internal dies L, M carried by slides N, P which are expanded by a wedge to give the form T, Fig. 5, to the tube.
