Abstract
A dosing and mixing implement for preparing adhesives of two components, comprising a cup-shaped receptacle (10) having an elongated handle (12) and supporting feet (14, 16) and a blade-shaped spatula (18) for insertion into the receptacle (10) along a longitudinal central line thereof. The spatula (18) divides the inner space of the receptacle (10) into two compartments each for receiving a component of the adhesive mixture to be prepared. The spatula (18) is provided on each side with graduations (26) for measuring the amounts of the adhesive components. The spatula (18) has a handle (24) with a projection (30) on its underside for insertion into a slot in the handle (12) of the receptacle (10) for coupling the spatula (18) thereto. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Dosing and mixing implement
This invention relates to a dosing and mixing implement for preparing adhesives of two components, particularly an adhesive for application to the junctions of the strings in a tennis racket for connection of the strings at their junctions as described in the prior Italian Utility Model Application No. 53 847-B/78 filed by the present Applicant on October 31, 1978 and entitled "Costruzione speciale della cordatura della racchetta peril gioco del tennis" (Special construction of the netting of the racket for the tennis game).
According to the teaching of this prior utility model application the strings of a tennis racket are connected by adhesive where they cross at at least some of their points of crossing or junctions to improve the efficiency of the racket.
In another Italian utility model application filed on the same date as the present application there is described a syringe designed to facilitate the application of the adhesive to the junction between two tennis racket strings. Although this syringe is a great help in the application of the adhesive, a problem still resides in the preparation ofthe adhesive mixture which is usually made up of two components. To obtain the same viscosity and setting time of the adhesive mixture each time it is prepared, it is in fact necessary to use always exactly the same doses of the two components.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a dosing and mixing implement for preparing adhesives of two components, particularly for the purpose specified above, by which the two adhesive components can be prepared rapidly and accurately.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a dosing and mixing implement for the purpose specified above, which is of simple construction and inexpensive in manufacture so that it can be discarded after use, if desired.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a dosing and mixing device for the purpose specified above, by which the doses of the adhesive mixture can be measured and varied to ensure constancy in the properties of the adhesive mixture.
These and other objects and advantages, which will become apparent from the following description, are achieved according to the invention by providing a dosing and mixing implement for preparing adhesives of two components, particularly an adhesive for application to the junctions of the strings in a tennis racket for connection of the strings at their junctions, which comprises a receptacle in the form of a cup provided with an elongated handle and supporting feet and a spatula in the form of a blade having an elongated handle and adapted to be placed into the cup along a longitudinal central line thereof, the blade having a peripheral surface mating the inner surface of the cup and a graduation on each side surface.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a cup forming part of the dosing and mixing implement according to a preferred embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the implement of
Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a schematic side view of a spatula insertable into the cup of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a side view, partially broken away, of the complete dosing and mixing implement.
Referring to the drawing and more particularly to
Figure 1, a dosing and mixing implement according to the invention comprises a cup 10 having the general shape of a spoon with an elongated handle 12. The cup 10 may conveniently be made by molding of a suitable polymer material such as polystyrene or the like. The cup 10 is provided with a pair of lugs 14 serving as supporting feet. Another foot 16 is provided at the end of the handle 12. So when the cup is placed on a flat horizontal surface such as a worktable, the feet 14, 16 will hold the cup with its upper edge in a substantially horizontal position.
Figure 3 shows a spatula 18 in the form of a flat blade 20 having a peripheral surface 22 shaped to mate the inner hollow surface of the cup 10 along a longitudinal central line thereof. The spatula 18 also has an elongated handle 24. The two opposed side surfaces of the blade portion 20 of the spatula 18 are each provided with a series of graduations 26 with graduation on one side usually different from that on the other and arranged according to criteria and for purposes which will become apparent from the following description. To facilitate coupling of the spatula 18 to the handle 12 of the cup 10, the spatula is provided on its underside with an elongated projection 30 adapted to be inserted into a correspondingly shaped elongated slot 28 in the handle 12 of the cup 10.
Figure 4 shows the implement in its assembled condition with the spatula 18 inserted vertically into the cup 10. In this condition the spatula divides the inner space of the cup into two separate adjacent compartments.
The operation of the implement is as follows:
The implement is placed on a horizontal worktable and a predetermined dose of each of the two components of the adhesive mixture to be prepared is poured respectively into one of the two compartments defined by the spatula 18 in the cup 10. The amount of each component to be poured into each compartment will correspond to a given line of the graduation of the spatula. For this purpose the graduations on the two sides of the spatula are so arranged as to correspond in each case to a desired proportion of the components of the adhesive mixture to be prepared. More particularly, the graduations may be arranged in pairs corresponding to desired amounts of the adhesive components to be mixed for preparing different doses of the adhesive mixture.
After the cup has thus been filled with the two predetermined doses of the two components of the adhesive mixture to be prepared, the spatula is removed from the cup to permit the two compo nents to be mixed and the spatula is used for intimately mixing the two components. After the two components have been mixed homogenously, the spatula may be used to facilitate pouring of the prepared mixture out of the cup. The peripheral surface 22 of the spatula, which has a curvature corresponding to that of the inner surface of the cavity of the cup 10, may be used to fairly cleanly scrape the mixture out of the cup.
The mixture thus prepared may be poured into a syringe for application to the junctions of the strings in a tennis racket as described in Applicant's aforementioned utility model application of even date.
