Abstract
Two rollers which support a length of continuous conveyor belting. A flat surface is fitted between the two rollers such that it supports the inside surface of the belt. The outside surface of the belt has a surface consistency which allows a draughting medium to be attached to it and which presents a smooth surface which is sufficiently hard to provide a good backing to the draughting medium. The rollers, backing surface and conveyor belt are supported on a structure which presents the draughtsman with a drawing table which may be adjustable for height and angle of the drawing surface. The normal position of the rollers would be to have one on the front edge of the table and the other at the rear but an alternative arrangement is to have one roller at each side. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Rolling surface draughting machine
The invention consists a new type of drawing machine which may be used in place of the drawing boards and draughting machines now used by people such as draughtsmen, engineers and architects.
The drawing surface of the machine will consist of a sheet of flexible material which is formed into an endless belt and mounted between two free running rollers in the fashion of a conveyor belt. These two rollers will be held in a frame and the frame will either be fashioned such that it holds the drawing surface at a find height from the floor or it will consist of a small frame attached to a stand which is capable of adjusting both the angle and the height of the drawing surface to many positions relative to the floor. One of the rollers will be positioned parallel to and at what would be the bottom of a conventional board and the other will be mounted at what would be the top. The flexible drawing surface (or belt will be supported by a board which will be fixed in a position behind the surface. The top face of the board will, in fact, be set close to a line which is tangential to the top outer face of both the belt support rollers. An arrangement must be provided to allow the draughtsman to draw straight parallel lines and this will be achieved by fitting the machine with a conventional parallel motion cursor or a conventional trolley type draughting machine or by simply fitting a fixed straight edge which would be parallel to and close to the bottom drawing belt roller. In this latter instance different horizontal lines would be drawn by moving the drawing paper relative to the straight edge.
The machine will be used by attaching the drawing paper to the belt by means of adhesive tape.
Drawing work can then be done in exactly the same fashion as on a conventional board except that the part of the drawing being worked on can always be brought down to a position where the draughtsman can most readily work on it.
One embodiment of the invention is shown on the attached drawing (Figure 1). This embodiment shows the rolling surface built on to a fixed stand but, as already stated, the stand could be made such that both the height and angle of the surface could be adjusted. Figure 1 shows the machine fitted with a conventional trolley type draughting machine.
CLAIM
The invention entitled the "Rolling Surface Drawing Board" consists of a system which allows a sheet of draughting medium to be attached to a continuous conveyor belt which is supported in such a way that it allows a draughtsman to move the drawing medium easily to the best position for drawing.
