Abstract

A kit of parts for constructing a picture comprises a board having a preselected diagram (1) marked thereon (e.g. a Mexican Macaw) and divided into a plurality of referenced segments (2), and a plurality of shaped members (felt feathers) adhesively bonded to the board. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for constructing a picture This invention relates to a kit of parts for constructing a picture or similar visual effect.
The invention seeks to provide a kit whereby a plurality of components may be secured to a base or board with the result of creating a visual effect, for example a picture.
According to this invention there is provided a kit of parts for constructing a picture or similar visual effect comprising a board having a preselected diagram marked thereon divided into a plurality of referenced segments and a plurality of shaped members which may be adhesively bonded to said board in such a manner as to display an enhanced visual rendering of said diagram.
The board may carry any desired diagram suitably partitioned into segments, each of which may substantially correspond in shape to one or more shaped members. Some of the referenced segments may be smaller in area than its corresponding shaped member to provide an overlapping and textured effect.
Preferably, the area of the diagram on the board is coated with an adhesive for attachment of the members, the coated board being protected by a non-adherent, releasable material when not in use. An acrylic emulsion adhesive which remains tacky indefinitely is preferably applied to the board by a silk screen process. Suitable shaped members include flat pieces of a shape which may be selected from tear drop, pear or longitudinal strip but alternative shapes are contemplated.
A preferred diagram may be a bird image for example a Mexican Macaw, Indian Wall Creeper, Crested Cardinal or Samoan Parakeet. In such preferred arrangements, shaped felt pieces will be utilised having a variety of vivid colours and may be likened to the individual feathers of the relevant bird.
There is a functional inter-relationship between the parts comprising the kit whereby the shaped felt pieces after adhesion to the board interact with each other and the image on the board to create a vivid illustration of the finished bird having appealing colour and texture effects.
By way of example only, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates an embodiment of the invention depicting a Mexican Macaw.
As shown in the drawing, the board comprises the general outline 1 of the bird, which is subdivided into smaller partitions 2 of various shape most of which carry two reference characters. The entire area of the bird diagram is coated with an indefinitely tacky acrylic emulsion adhesive. The specific felt pieces intended for adhesion to each segment are referenced by letters for the size (or shape) and by number for the particular colour required. Segments of the diagram may themseives be coloured to identify the colour of felt piece required.
The feather shaped felt portions are represented by letters A, B and C whilst the strip portions bear no such reference. In the kit for assembling the picture, the felt portions are provided as pre-cut, press-out portions in larger felt strips.
After peeling off the protective paper from the board, the tacky, acrylic emulsion adhesive is exposed upon which the flat feathers cling. Each felt piece is laid to overlap the previous one in similar fashion to roof tiles.
For colour identity the following reference system is used 2 = Red, 3 = Yellow, 4 = Green, 5 = Royal Blue, Black segment = Black. In a method of constructing the Mexican Macaw with textured feather appearance the following steps are executed in order: (a) Cut brown strips for branch on either side of bird and lay in place.
(b) Lay green leaves in place.
(c) Lay red strips on tail and cut to shape as outlined.
(d) Cut beak and claw from black feathers (A), lay in place.
(e) Lay white shape on head and glue black dot in place.
(f) Lay red feather (A2) next to claw.
(g) Starting at the tail, lay royal blue feathers (A5).
(h) Lay black feathers on all segments in the diagram coloured black.
(i) Lay the four royal blue feathers (A5) (j) Lay green feathers (A4) (k) Lay yellow feathers (A3) (I) Lay red feathers (B2) then continue with small red feathers (C2) noting the direction of the feather points.
When all the feather pieces are in the correct position, they are firmly pressed to ensure a strong bond.
