Abstract
206,446. Internationale Siegwartbalken-Ges. Feb. 21, 1923, [Convention date]. Pipes and tubes; centrifugal machines.-In a centrifugal moulding-machine for the manufacture of reinforced pipes, masts, &c. in which the concrete &c. is deposited in the mould through a slot in the bottom of a non-rotatable longitudinally movable tubular feed member, the slot is covered with a sliding shutter and the mould is rotatable at first slowly and then at speeds increased step by step. During rotation the mould 43 is supported at one end on a shaft 26 by a chuck plate disc 37 having interchangeable rings 38 and at the other end by a similar ring 41 mounted in a movable tail stock 39. A drive shaft 5 is situated parallel to the shaft 26 and by movement of a. lever 34 to the left is connected up with the shaft 26 through friction clutches 16, 27 and gear wheels 9, 29, 30 so as to rotate the mould slowly. The speed of rotation is increased step by step by moving the lever 34 to the right and thus driving the shaft 26 through gear wheels 35, Fig. 4, of graduated size which are consequently engaged by a lever 24 having a spur wheel 25 constantly meshing with a spur wheel 22 on the shaft 5. The tail stock, Fig. 8, which carries the mould on rollers 58 mounted in ball bearings is movable on rails 42 by worm and screw gearing 45, 47, 48 operated by a hand-wheel 49, and is locked in position by claws 56 mounted in levers 54 and operated to grip the rails 42 by hand-wheels 51 on shafts 51. The mould, Fig. 14, which may have a sheet-metal lining 56, is constructed of wooden spars built up in three sections 43a, 43b, 43<c> held together by quadrant-shaped channel irons 63 drawn taut by chains 64 and bolts 65. The mould is lifted into position on a carriage 76 running on rails 75 and comprising inclined rollers 79 resting on telescoping rods 77. The feed member, Figs. 2 and 7, comprising a barrel 82 slotted at top and bottom is mounted on wheels 68 and is prevented from tipping over by rollers 74 engaging underneath the rails 69. The lower slot 85 is closed by a quadrant-shaped shutter 92 suspended from ties 87 and oscillated by a rod 89 operated by a handle 90. The feed member is supplied with material from a shoot mounted on a wagon on rails parallel to the rails 69. An alternative form of construction is described.
