Abstract
A device to aid the student of Technical Drawing in obtaining a quicker understanding of the basic principles of orthographic projection consists of a foldable playing-board divided into 5 sections. Each section contains a centrally located cut-out square area into which may be fitted a matching-size card, all cards and cut- out areas being of equal side. On each card is clearly printed a different conventional orthographic view or the same particular engineering object e.g. front elevation, end elevation, plan view etc. One such set of five cards arranged in random order is taken by the student and each card must be dropped into an appropriate square on the board so that now seen together they form a correctly projected engineering drawing of the given object, following, for example, the conventional rules governing 1st or 3rd Angle projection.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Teaching Aid for Technical Drawing Instruction
A device to aid the student of Technical
Drawing in obtaining a quicker understanding of
the basic principles of orthographic projection
than can normally be acquired by the more
lengthly practical drawing exercise method:
1) The device consists of a foldable playing
board divided into 5 sections. Each section
contains a centrally located cut-out square area
into which may be fitted a matching-size card, all
cards and cut-out areas being of equal side. On
each card is clearly printed a different
conventional orthographic view of the same
particular engineering object e.g. front elevation,
end elevation, plan view etc.
2) One such set of five cards arranged in random order is taken by the student and each
card must be dropped into an appropriate square
on the board so that now seen together they form ..a correctly projected engineering drawing of the
given object, following, for example, the
conventional rules governing 1 st or 3rd Angle
projection.
3) To assist in the early stages of learning, an
actual object, model, or photograph of the object
would normally be provided.
4) At a later stage the task may be set without
the aids in 3) above.
5) At a still later stage multiple sets of cards, duly shuffled, and with or without these same aids may be "dealt" to the student, thereby demanding more advanced ability in reading a drawing before a correct solution can be assembled for each set in turn.
6) As a measure of progress, a stop-watch may be used to compare the times taken for each student to complete successive tasks, on an individual or competitive basis.
Claims
1. A device to aid the student of Technical
Drawing in obtaining an understanding of the basic principles of orthographic projection. The device comprises a foldable playing-board divided into 5 sections. Each section contains a centrally located cut-out area into which may be fitted a matching-size card, all cards and cut-out areas being of equal side. On each card is clearly printed a different conventional orthographic view of the same particular engineering object e.g. front elevation, end elevation, plan view etc.
2. A device according to Claim 1 wherein one such set of five cards arranged in random order is taken by the student and each card must be dropped into an appropriate square on the board so that now seen together they form a correctly projected engineering drawing of the given object, following, for example, the conventional rules governing 1 st or 3rd Angle projection.

Claims (2)
1) The device consists of a foldable playing
board divided into 5 sections. Each section
contains a centrally located cut-out square area
into which may be fitted a matching-size card, all
cards and cut-out areas being of equal side. On
each card is clearly printed a different
conventional orthographic view of the same
particular engineering object e.g. front elevation,
end elevation, plan view etc.
