Abstract

A display unit comprises a load-bearing framework on which are fixed wirework shelves (3) provided with fences (10) coinciding with the rear longitudinal edge of said shelf, and at least one heel rest (4) of adjustable position is fitted to the shelves (3) by means of removable quick-acting couplings to enable the display units to be adapted to a wide range of shoes of different sizes. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to display units for heeled footwear The invention relates to a display unit particularly for footwear, and intended in particular for footwear fitted with heels.
There exist many known display units which enable shoes to be displayed either full face or in profile. A disadvantage of some of these is due to the fact that only one shoe of each pair of shoes can be displayed which means that effort must be expended during selling in order to obtain the pair.
Another disadvantage is that the number of models displayed is restricted in the case of a very important line, in orderto avoid having to re-stock the shelf too frequently.
Another difficulty is that it is necessary to be able to display shoes of all sizes, and thus have an apparatus which is as versatile as possible. There exists an apparatus known as "racquets" of fixed or adjustable width, which enables one shoe to be presented in profile and at most three pairs in depth.
However, this apparatus has the disadvantage that, on modifying the shelf, it is necessary to disassemble the shelf assembly, either in order to change the width of the "racquets" (by installing larger or smal ler"racquets"), or to adjust the width of these latter.
According to the invention, there is provided a display unit for footwear fitted with heels, comprising a load-bearing framework having a base and uprights on to which shelves are hooked at predetermined heights to constitute superposed display levels for the footwear, each shelf which forms a level comprising a grid formed from at least two parallel continuous edge wires connected together by welded transverse wires, heel rests projecting from the shelves being mounted in adjustable positions with respect to the shelves by means of members mobile on the wires in order to adjust their distance apart according to the size of the footwear.
Such a display unit can be easily adapted to the successive presentation of footwear of different sizes without troublesome dismantling.
The shelves may comprise at least two longitudinal wires connected together by transverse welded wires, a rear stop member of each shelf being constituted by a third wire parallel to the rear wire, but situated at a slightly higher level than this latter.
Each heel rest may comprise a metal plate extending transversely to the shelves to which they are fitted, one of the two longitudinal edges of this plate being prolonged in height by means of a heel stop formed from a metal wire being at a right angle at its two ends and welded to the plate.
The invention will be further described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying figures, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one shelf of a display unit; Figure 2 is a perspective view showing a heel rest in detail; and Figure 3 is a diagrammatic side view of a display unit.
The display unit comprises a framework formed from a base 1 and uprights 2, shelves 3 of grid form and finally heel rests 4 which are removable or slidable, and are thus of adjustable position.
The framework is of the load-bearing type and can be for wall mounting or mounted on a base and goldola-shaped as in the embodiment illustrated.
Whether it is of the one or the other type, the uprights 2 are formed from tubular sections of polygonal cross-section, the front faces of which are provided with apertures distributed over their entire length to constitute racks on to which the shelves of grid form are fixed by hooking. If the framework is of the gondola type, the uprights will be supported at their bases by a base 1 offering a good support on the ground, and their top will be joined together by a headpiece 5 fitted with a label carrier 6 for attaching the price, advertising or any other announcement for the information of the customer.
The grid-shaped shelves 3 are constituted by two or three parallel wires 7 and 8 connected together by transverse welded wires 9 at a chosen repetition pitch. The wire shelves are bordered at their rear longitudinal edge by a stop member 10, also of wire, to prevent the footwear from falling, the stop member being parallel to the rear wire 7 but situated at a slightly higher level (as shown in Figure 1).
The shelves are fixed on to the uprights 2 of the framework by means of wire or plate brackets 11 formed from a horizontal support arm 12, a reinforcement 13 and hooking means 14. The hooking means shown are constituted by downwardly directed hooks which are fitted into the rectangular apertures provided in the front face of the uprights 2 of the framework. The brackets can further comprise sleeves 15 into which the wires 8 of the grid-shaped shelves pass.
The heel rests are constituted by a metal plate 16 in the form of a strip which extends transversely to the longitudinal direction ofthe shelves. The plate is bounded on one side of its longitudinal edges by a heel stop 17 formed from a wire bent at a right angle at its two ends 171 and 172, and welded to the plate.
The wire can be reinforced by another wire 173 parallel to the first and joined to this latter by means of welding and buy a crosspiece 174.
The heel rests are provided with coupling means formed from quick-acting couplings which confer a certain mobility or removability so that they can be adjusted in position relative to the grid shelves. In the embodiment shown, the coupling means are constituted by downwardly extending clips 18 which are clipped on to the wires 7 and 8 of the shelves, the heel rests being spaced over the entire length ofthe shelf at the same pitch as the transverse wires 9. It is equally possible to make the heel rests slidbale by providing their rear transverse edges 19 which slide on the rear stop member 10, the front transverse edge 20 clipping on to the wire 8. The plate 16 of each heel rest extends frontwards by way of a label holder 21 extending along the transverse edge 20 and downwards and enabling for example the sizes of the exposed footwear to be displayed.
The brackets 11 can be given a slight downward inclination to allow better display of the footwear, and in this case a stop member is provided at the front of the shelves similar to the stop member 10 in order to retain the footwear. This second stop member can be used for the sliding assembly of the heel rests, as indicated heretofore, with respect to the sleeves sliding on the stop member 10.
The display unit can comprise a succession of shelves ranged in tiers over the entire height ofthe uprights 2, this giving it a large capacity as shown in Figure 3, if account is taken of the fact that each heel rest can receive three pairs of shoes. This type of display unit is not limited to means shoes, and it is apparent that it can equally well be used to display ladies shoes, including high heeled shoes, by simply increasing the height of the stops 7 and rear stop members 10.

Claims (10)

1. A display unit for footwear fitted with heels, comprising a load-bearing framework having a base and uprights on to which shelves are hooked at predetermined heights to constitute superposed display levels for the footwear, each shelf which forms a level comprising a grid formed from at least two parallel continuous edge wires connected together by welded transverse wires, heel rests projecting from the shelves being mounted in adjustable postions with respect to the shelves by means of members mobile on the wires in order to adjust their distance apart according to the size of the footwear.
2. A display unit as claimed in claim 1, in which each shelf has at least one longitudinal stop member formed from a wire parallel to one of the edge wires but situated at a higher level than the one edge wire.
3. A display unit as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the heel rests are removable or are slidable on the edge wires of the shelves.
4 A display unit as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which each heel rest is constituted by an elongate metal plate which extends transversely to the shelf on which it is assembled, one of the two longitudinal edges of the plate being extended in height by means of a heel stop formed from a metal wire bent at right angles at its two ends and welded to the plate.
5. A display unit as claimed in claim 4, in which the heel rests are removably mounted on the wires of the shelves by means of clips.
6. A display unit as claimed in claim 4, in which the plate of each heel rest is extended at its firstfront transverse edge by a label holder for displaying prices or sizes.
7. A display unit as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the uprights terminate at their top in a headpiece provided with a label holder which enables prices or advertising matter to be displayed.
