Abstract

A progressive plug gauge has two go portions 14, 18 which are axially spaced with a no go portion 16 between them. Go portion 18 is detachably connected to a support or handle 10 so that when go portion 14 is worn, the positions of go portions 14, 18 may be reversed. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Plug Gauges This invention relates to plug gauges particularly of the kind known as "prgressive" plug gauges where first and second gauging elements of different diameters are arranged with the larger of the two located most closely adjacent to a support or handle.
According to the invention, a third gauging element is provided of the same diameter as the first, and is housed in the support or handle, the three gauging elements being unitary and being collectively reversible in position relative to the handle.
One embodiment of the presentinvention is now more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein the sole figure is an eievation of a progressive plug gauge according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the handle comprises a first part 10 and a second part 12 which are connected together and are relatively rotatable so that for example a split collet type of action may be used to clamp a gauging element in the handle.
The gauging element comprises first or "go" portion 14 axially separated from second or "no go" portion 1 6 which in turn is axially separated from a third portion 18 which is also a "go" portion of the same diameter as portion 14.
It will be appreciated that when portion 14 has worn as a result of use, the gauging elements may be reversed to bring the element 1 8 into use and to utilise the portion 14 for attachment to the handle.
In practice, it is found that the "no go" portion 1 6 is subject to less wear than the portions 14 and 18, and hence one "no go" portion can last out two "go" portions.
Claims
1. A progressive plug gauge comprising first and second gauging elements of different diameters with the larger of the two located most closely adjacent to a support or handle, and characterised in that a third gauging element of the same diameter as the first is housed in the support or handle, the three gauging elements being unitary and reversible in position relative to the handle.
2. A plug gauge substantially as described and with reference to the accompanying drawing.

SPECIFICATION Plug Gauges This invention relates to plug gauges particularly of the kind known as "prgressive" plug gauges where first and second gauging elements of different diameters are arranged with the larger of the two located most closely adjacent to a support or handle. According to the invention, a third gauging element is provided of the same diameter as the first, and is housed in the support or handle, the three gauging elements being unitary and being collectively reversible in position relative to the handle. One embodiment of the presentinvention is now more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein the sole figure is an eievation of a progressive plug gauge according to the invention. 1. A progressive plug gauge comprising first and second gauging elements of different diameters with the larger of the two located most closely adjacent to a support or handle, and characterised in that a third gauging element of the same diameter as the first is housed in the support or handle, the three gauging elements being unitary and reversible in position relative to the handle.
