Abstract

For use as a practical aid in teaching children, either individually or as a group, the development of a human's or other animal's foetus within its parent a doll 10, which in this instance is in the form of a pregnant human being, comprises a body 12 having an opening in its abdomen 15, said opening being fastenable by a zip fastener 16 and through which opening any one of a number models 17 of the human foetus, each model representing the foetus in a particular stage of development, are insertable into the body 10. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A doll, primarily for use in a child's sexual education This invention relates to a doll in the form of a pregnant human being or other animal.

It is an object of the invention to provide a doll, primarily for use as a practical aid in the sexual education of children, either individually or as a group, which allows a teacher to teach, step by step, the development of the human or other animal's foetus within its parent or which can be given to an individual child so that he/she learns this development through playing with the doll.

With this object in view the present invention provides a doll, primarily for use in a child's sexual eduction, in the form of a pregnant human being or other animal and comprising a hollow body for carrying any one of a plurality of models of said human or other animal's foetus, each model representing a different stage in foetus's development, the body having an opening to allow the models -to be inserted therein so as to enable the child to learn or be taught each stage of the foetus's development within its parent, and also having means for fastening said opening after insertion of one of the models.

It is, of course, desirable to provide a doll which is as realistic as possible of a pregnant human being or other animal. The doll's abdomen, therefore, is distended, as the abdomen would be in a pregnant human being or animal. For this reason it is preferable for the opening to extend longitudinally of the abdomen.

The means for fastening the opening can be a zip fastener.

Advantageously, in the region of the opening, the abdomen has a lesser wall thickness than the rest of the body. This ensures that in this region the abdomen is fairly flexible and, therefore, facilitates the insertion of larger models of the foetus i.e. those which represent the foetus in its advanced stages of development.

The doll may be made in one piece of lightweight but rigid plastics material. However, it may also be made in a number of separate parts which are assembled together.

The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the doll of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional side elevation on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

The preferred embodiment of the doll 10 of the invention is in the form of a female human being in a pregnant condition. The doll 10 comprises a number of separate parts, namely a head 11, body 12, arms 13 and legs 14, and is made of, for example, lightweight but rigid plastics material.

As is more clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, the body 12 is hollow and has in its abdomen 1 5 a longitudinally extending opening. The body 12 is also provided with means for fastening the opening, said means being in the form of a zip fastener 1 6.

The opening permits insertion into the body 12 of one of a number of models of the human foetus, each model representing the foetus at a particular stage in its development. Model 17 shown in Fig. 1, in outline, and in Fig. 2 in full line, is of a foetus which is at an advanced stage in its development, that is with all its external features fully formed, and is disposed within the body 12 in what is commonly termed a breach birth position.

It will be appreciated that the body's interior 1 8 serves as a womb for the foetus. However, because the body 12 has no internal organs the size and position of the womb is different from the womb of an actual human female.

In the region of the opening, the abdomen 15 has a lesser wall thickness than the rest of the body 12. This means that that region of the abdomen 1 5 surrounding the opening is fairly flexible and therefore facilitates the insertion of larger models of the foetus i.e. those which represent the foetus in advanced stages of development.

The doll of the invention provides a very practical aid in the sexual education of children.

Primarily, the doll is for use by a teacher to enable him/her to go through each stage in the development of the foetus within its parent step by step and in a time period which is commensurate with the age and level of, understanding of each child. However, the doll can also be given to an individual child to play with so that through play the child learns for himself/or herself the development of the foetus.

The invention is not limited to the precise details of the foregoing and variations may be made thereto within the scope of the invention.

The doll, may be in the form of any animal besides a human being. It would be a further advantage in the understanding of the development of the foetus if the doll were made of a clear plastics material. Furthermore, the opening could be in a different position in the body and could be provided with fastening means other than a zip fastener. Although the doll is primarily for use in the sexual education of children, it could equally be effectively used for adult sexual education.

3. A doll as claimed in claims 1 or 2 wherein the means for fastening the opening is a zip fastener.

4. A doll as claimed in claims 1,2 or 3 wherein in the region of the opening the abdomen has a lesser wall thickness than the rest of the body.

5. A doll as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the doll is made of a lightweight but rigid plastics material.
