Abstract

The front of the device has rows of longitudinal and transverse holes for fitting thereto individual elements carrying names of the participants and numbers, the elements having studs which fit into the holes. The elements are arranged in tubular form representing the order of performance and points awarded. The elements when not in use are fitted to the rear of the device which is also provided with holes for the studs of the elements. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Device for representing the order of performance of the participants in sports competitions The invention relates to a device for representing the order of performance of participants in sports competitions.
As is known, the order of performance of the participants in sports competitions is given in tabular form. The best known representation is the reproduction in printed publications of the press.
For many sports enthusiasts, however, such a representation is unsatisfactory because a comparison with earlier competitions of the same kind is not possible.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a device with which the order of performance of the participants in sports competitions can be ascertained simply, quickly and reliably.
In order to solve this problem, there is provided a device for representing the order of performance of the participants in sports competitions characterised by at least two plate elements which are connected to one another and of which the front plate element is provided with rows of longitudinal and transverse holes with different or the same spacing, and the rear plate element is provided with rows of longitudinal and transverse holes with the same spacing, and individual insert elements bearing names or numbers which can be inserted in the holes in the front plate element according to the performance of the participants in the competition, the insert elements being taken from a supply thereof on the rear plate element.
The advantage of the invention consists in that the order of performance of the participants in a sports competition can be ascertained at any moment merely by changing the insert elements, which can be done quickly and reliably, because the individual elements can easily be taken out of the holes in the rear supply plate and inserted in the front plate representing the state of performance.
In a preferred construction according to the invention, at least one other plate element serving as a carrier is provided between the front and rear plate elements.
In another construction according to the invention there is provided a device for representing the order of performance of the participants in sports competition, comprising a plate element the front face of which is provided with rows of longitudinal and transverse holes with different or the same spacing, and the rear face of which is provided with rows of longitudinal and transverse holes with the same spacing, and individual elements bearing names or numbers which can be inserted in the holes in the front face of the plate according to the performance of the participants in the competition, or in the holes in the rear face of the plate when not in use.
One construction of a device according to the invention, will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows the front of the device, Figure 2 shows the back of the device, Figure 3 shows the device of Figure 1 illustrated in perspective (partially), Figure 4 shows a detail of construction, Fiugre 5 shows the front view of an extended form of the device, Figure 6 shows the back of the device of Figure 5.
Figure 1 shows a device representing, by way of example, the edition of the table for the Federal League football 1977/78, 30th day of play, in front view. In this case, the device is a pocket edition which should not exceed the size of a driver's licence. It should be able to be carried conveniently in the pocket ready to hand. The pocket edition is restricted to representing the goal relationship and points.
The unalterable components, denoted by R, comprise: the title of the table, the serial numbers 1-18, and the frames surrounding the individual blocks for the team names, the groups of numbers, and the relationship points. The movable elements are the team names and the individual numerical combinations which can be composed from the individual numbers 0--9. The names of the teams are changed from one playing day to another according to the results. At the same time, the numerical combinations are altered. While the team names need two attachment holes in the perforated plate, one insertion hole is sufficient for each individual number (see open part of perforated plate).
Figure 2 shows the back of the device of Figure 1. It is made in the form of a perforated plate and holds a supply of the movable numerical elements needed to give the goal relationship and the points. The device shows the numbers from 0--9 in a double row D,, D1, D2 etc. that is 46 elements of the same number. This means that the same number is available two or three times for each of the 1 8 teams. This is more than sufficient, because sufficient individual elements become free as a result of the constantly changing numerical combinations. If numbers are temporarily not needed on the front of the device because of the results of the day's play, they are inserted in the back again.
Figure 3 shows a part of the device of Figure 1 illustrated in perspective (partially). The movable elements are omitted. It does not matter whether the perforated plate at the front of the device has holes in a special perforation, as illustrated, or whether it has a complete perforation with uniform spacing. The necessary hole systems for teams, goals and points can be specially coloured if necessary for the sake of clarity.
The device described should preferably be made as a whole of plastics material, possibly by the injection-moulding process. Alternatively, the device can be made by sticking or welding two perforated plates LR and LV to opposite sides of an unperforated plate GP.
It is advisable to fit the device in a non-clouding cover which is transparent on both sides like a driving licence case.
Figure 4 shows, as a detail of construction, the movable elements for the teams V and for the numbers Z. The knubs at the back of the elements should be round to facilitate insertion and removal from the holes in the plates. The thickness of V and Z depends on the strength of the material used.
Figure 5 shows an enlarged model of the device. As a whole it represents, in the region 0, an extension of the handy pocket device of Figure 1. As a de luxe construction it is intended for hanging up in rooms (club rooms, young people's rooms etc.).
The region 0 provides a more accurate breakdown of the results of play achieved than is possible with the pocket device for reasons of space: Sp = number of games, s = number of wins, U = number of draws, N = number of losses.
The come the goal relationships and points as in Figure 1.
The regions M and U designate a different table system, namely the day of play system. At M the precise day of play is distinguished by two variable numerical elements. In U, the table gives the individual results of this day's play. From one day's play to another, a new team pairings are assembled by insertion and the result achieved is inserted.
This day's play system is suitable as an independent table particularly for tournament-like competitions in which, for example, a placing is given in team groups, and in which preliminary trials take place (for example world championships).
Figure 6 shows the back of the device of Figure 5. As a whole it is made like the device of Figure 2 but because of the increased requirement of numbers contains 66 elements of the same number for each double row = three to six times the same number for each team.
Below; some possibilities of use for the device according to the invention are mentioned.
1. Football Federal League in accordance with the examples of tables given.
2. Football, 2nd Federal League, North and South two tables each like the 1 st Federal League but with 20 teams and correspondingly more numerical elements.
3. Handball, like football, Federal League, but with fourteen teams and three numbers for goals above 1 00.
4. Regional leagues of football and handball.
5. Football world championship like day's play system of the extended table, national pairings like region U.
6. Cup competitions (Europa cup, cup-winners, UEFA cup) like day's play system of the extended table, kinds of cup possibly given in 1 st table.
7. Ice hockey, Federal League, 8. Medals in the Olympic Games, 9. Results of competitions in the Olympic Games.
10. Results of international track-and-field athletics.
