Abstract

A hair lotion to combat hair loss is made by macerating artemisia in tepid water for about four hours, adding parsley and allowing the maceration process to continue for about another two hours, and then adding crushed grapes which have fermented for about thirty six hours; the whole composition is then mixed into dilute alcohol for a further maceration period of at least three weeks, after which the product obtained is pressed and filtered. Maize beard, fennel and/or orange blossom may also be added to the artemisia at the beginning of the maceration thereof.

Description

SPECIFICATION Process for the preparation of a hair lotion to combat hair loss and also the hair lotion obtained by this process This invention concerns a process for manufacturing a hair lotion to combat hair loss and also the hair lotion obtained by this process.
The ever increasing amount of pollution in our towns and also the ever quickening pace of life are not without detrimental effects on the beauty of people's hair and, what is more serious, the health of their scalps.
It is common knowledge that baldness is on the increase and that even women can be affected by this phenomenon.
This fact, together with the relative impossibility of remedying these ills by attacking them directly at their source, has led numerous research workers to attempt the development of compounds designed to reduce or at best to arrest the phenomena of excessive regreasing of the scalp and loss of hair.
To this end, a considerable number of preparations has already been put on the market, but none so far has proved entirely satisfactory.
In fact, all products at present available are either restricted to slowing down hair loss, without stopping it completely, or to reducing seborrhoea secretion by the scalp, although they are not successful in eliminating it entirely.
The present invention seeks to provide an improvement on previous products by making available a new hair lotion which not only combats hair loss but which is also capable of stopping it completely. The invention also provides a manufacturing process for making such hair lotion.
This process in accordance with the invention consists in macerating artemisia in tepid water for an initial period, adding parsley and allowing the maceration process to continue for a further period, then adding crushed grapes which have fermented, followed by mixing the whole composition with dilute alcohol and leaving for a further maceration period of at least three weeks, after which the product obtained is pressed and filtered.
The initial period of maceration of the artemisia in the tepid water should generally last for about four hours and after adding the parsley the further period of maceration should last for about half that time, that is, about two hours. Also, the crushed grapes used should generally have been fermented for about a day and a half, that is, about thirty six hours at the stage when they are added to produce the composition which is mixed with the dilute alcohol.
In the latter mixing stage the composition will generally be added or poured into the dilute alcohol which is in the form of a dilute aqueous solution.
The artemisia used for this macertaion may be any of the species of the genus Artemisia.
By this process it is possible to obtain a lotion capable of regenerating the scalp, which is a property not shared by other lotions currently on the market.
To improve this process even further, in preferred embodiments of this invention, maize beard andlor fennel and/or orange blossom may advantageously be added to the artemisia at the beginning of its maceration.
Preferably, the solution of alcohol used should be made up of about one litre of alcohol at 90" in 300cl of water.
This invention is equally concerned with the product obtained by the process described above.
Particularly good results have been obtained using, for making one litre of lotion, between 120 and 1809 of artemisia, between 250 and 3509 parsley and between 40 and 60g black grapes.
This mixture gives a product capable of stopping hair loss by reducing seborrhoea secretions and by getting rid of dandruff. This product can also protect and strengthen brittle hair.
A further improvement can be obtained by the addition of 10g of maize, fennel and orange blossom.
Another advantage of such lotions is that they can speed up hair growth.
In a particular example, one litre of a lotion for regenerating the scalp is made by the process already described using 1509 of artemisia, 3009 of parsley, 10g of maize beard, 10g of fennel, 10g of orange blossom and 50g of black grapes.
It is also worth noting that this lotion consists entirely of natural products and will not therefore give rise to any adverse secondary reactions.
