Abstract

A lamp fitting has a circular mounting plate (1) to receive the ends of arms 6 which carry the bulb. The plate has a radially extending slot (2) for each arm with circular enlargements. Spherical elements (5) on a radial extension of each arm are passed through the enlargements, when the arm is fitted and the arm is then slid along its slot so that the elements abut the upper surface of the plate, each arm entering a semi- circular recess in the plate edge in line with a respective slot. The assembly is held in position by a cover plate connected to the mounting plate by a screw and nut. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Lamp fittings The present invention relates to lamp fittings.
It is well known that it is necessary to provide lamps with means for anchoring the bulb support arms in a mounting plate, to avoid play or misadjustments which prevent their normal working and optimum performance.
In accordance with the present invention, a mounting plate for a lamp assembly is provided with holes for the electric conductors and, a plurality of longitudinal recesses or openings, one for each lamp arm, support extending radially and at a common distance from the centre of the plate, two circular enlargements being provided in each recess to receive fittings of the lamp arms.
In line with these longitudinal recesses, other semicircular recesses are made in the perimeter of the plate, to receive the arms when they are fitted.
As the fixing element of each lamp arm to the plate, each arm is provided with a side extension, preferably flat, which has two inverted and adapted pivots at the bottom, with two free spherical ends, to be inserted in the enlargements of the longitudinal recesses of the plate.
In mounting the arms, the two pivots of the side extensions, are inserted in the Iongtudinal recesses of the support disc and, after performing this operation, the arms are moved slighly outwards, whereby the pivots will shift lengthwise along the said recesses to their ends.
The assembled arms and plate are then attached to a cover plate, inserting a central screw of the plate into a likewise central hole of the mounting plate and then tightening a fixing nut on the screw so that, the lamp arms contact against the perimeter of the mounting plate and pass through the semicircular recesses without the possibility of displacement of the arms.
An embodiment of the invention wili now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:- Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a mounting plate for a lamp fitting; Figure 2 is a side elevation view of one of the arms for attaching to the plate; Figure 3 is another perspective view of a cover plate for the fitting.
In Figure 1, there is shown a circular mounting plate - 1 - with radial longitudinal recesses or slots 2, in each of which two circular enlargements are provided, semi-circular recesses 3 placed equidistantly in the perimeter of the plate, in line with the radial slots and, the holes 4 for the electric conductor wires to the lamps.
Figure 2 shows a side elevation of one of the lamp arms 6 with means for attachment to the plate consisting of a side extension preferably flat, which has two pivots 5 on its underside in the form of two spherical elements, which fit into the circular enlargements of the plate. After passing the elements 5 through the enlargements, each arm is moved towards the periphery of the disc so that the elements rest on its upper surface.
Figure 3 shows the cover plate 7 of the lamp fitting, for fixing the arms, with a screw 8 to pass through a central hole in plate 1 with which the fitting is locked together.
1. A mounting plate for a lamp fitting provided with a central hole, and a plurality of radially extending longitudinal slot-like recesses, one for each arm to be supported by the plate, at a common distance from the central hole, each recess having two circular enlargements, and in the perimeter of the plate and in line with the longitudinal recesses further semi-circular recesses.
2. A lamp fitting comprising a mounting plate according to claim 1, having lamp arms each of which is provided with a side extension, preferably flat, having two inverted pivots on the bottom surface of spherical shape which are inserted in the enlargements of the longitudinal recesses of the disc to engage the arms with the plate.
3. A method of assembling a fitting according to claim 2, wherein the pivots of each arm are inserted in the enlargements in a corresponding slot, after which the arm is pulled slightly outwards, so that the enlargements shift lengthwise along the recesses, the assembly so produced being secured by inserting a central screw of a cover plate in the central holes of mounting plate and tightening a suitable nut on the screw, so that the arms are pressed against the perimeter of the mounting plate.
4. A lamp fitting constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described and shown in the accompanying drawings.
