Abstract

A television receiver includes a cabinet having at least three substantially vertical sides 10, screen receiving apertures 12 formed in at least two of said sides and picture screens in said apertures. Description

SPECIFICATION Television receiver This invention relates to a television receiver and has for its object to provide such a receiver in a simple and convenient form.

Known television receivers have a single screen constituted by the end portion of a television picture tube. The picture tube is mounted in a cabinet so that the screen is visible from the front of the cabinet, the screen being substantially vertical in use. The number of people who can watch the picture on the screen is limited by the size of the screen and also the angle through which it is possible to view the screen without uncomfortable distortion of the picture.

According to the invention a television,receiver comprises a cabinet having three or more substantially vertical sides, screen receiving apertures in at least two of said sides respectively, and picture screens in said apertures respectively each of said screens in use displaying the same picture whereby the picture can be viewed from at least two sides of the receiver.

An example of a television receiver in accordance with the invention will be describedwith reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet; Figure 2 is a vertical elevation of the receiver; and Figure 3 is a plan view.

Referring to the drawings the cabinet of the receiver has three substantially vertical major sides referenced 10 and which are disposed substantially at 600 relative to each other in the manner of an equilateral triangle. The apices of the triangle are cut off so that minor sides referenced 11 are formed.

In the example each side is formed with a screen receiving aperture 12 to receive a picture screen indicated at 1 3. Each screen may be the screen of an individual picture tube, although it is envisaged that the three screens may form part of a single picture tube. The upper surface 14 of the cabinet carries a control panel 1 5 for the receiver and the aforesaid minor sides 11 can carry speakers for the sound channel.

The pictures on the three screens will be in use, the same and it is therefore possible to view the same picture from the three sides of the receiver thereby greatly increasing the number of people who can watch the picture without significantly increasing the cost of the receiver, Legs may be provided on the receiver to support it from the floor and it will be appreciated that the cabinet can be of any suitable size to suit the size of the picture screens.

1. A television receiver comprising a cabinet having three or more substantially vertical sides, screen receiving apertures in at least two of said sides respectively, and picture screens in said apertures respectively each of said screens in use displaying the same picture whereby the picture can be viewed from at least two sides of the receiver.

2. A receiver according to claim 1 in which the cabinet is provided with three sides and screen receiving apertures are formed in each of said sides.

3. A receiver according to claim 2 in which the aforesaid three sides are disposed at 600 relative to each other and three minor sides are provided alternately arranged with said first mentioned sides.

4. A receiver according to claim 3 including a top for the cabinet and a control panel mounted on said top.

5. A receiver according to claim 4 in which said minor sides mount loudspeakers.

6. A television receiver according to claim 2 in which the three screens form part of a single picture tube.

7. A television receiver comprising the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

SPECIFICATION Television receiver This invention relates to a television receiver and has for its object to provide such a receiver in a simple and convenient form. Known television receivers have a single screen constituted by the end portion of a television picture tube. The picture tube is mounted in a cabinet so that the screen is visible from the front of the cabinet, the screen being substantially vertical in use. The number of people who can watch the picture on the screen is limited by the size of the screen and also the angle through which it is possible to view the screen without uncomfortable distortion of the picture. According to the invention a television,receiver comprises a cabinet having three or more substantially vertical sides, screen receiving apertures in at least two of said sides respectively, and picture screens in said apertures respectively each of said screens in use displaying the same picture whereby the picture can be viewed from at least two sides of the receiver. An example of a television receiver in accordance with the invention will be describedwith reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet; Figure 2 is a vertical elevation of the receiver; and Figure 3 is a plan view. Referring to the drawings the cabinet of the receiver has three substantially vertical major sides referenced 10 and which are disposed substantially at 600 relative to each other in the manner of an equilateral triangle. The apices of the triangle are cut off so that minor sides referenced 11 are formed. In the example each side is formed with a screen receiving aperture 12 to receive a picture screen indicated at 1 3. Each screen may be the screen of an individual picture tube, although it is envisaged that the three screens may form part of a single picture tube. The upper surface 14 of the cabinet carries a control panel 1 5 for the receiver and the aforesaid minor sides 11 can carry speakers for the sound channel. The pictures on the three screens will be in use, the same and it is therefore possible to view the same picture from the three sides of the receiver thereby greatly increasing the number of people who can watch the picture without significantly increasing the cost of the receiver, Legs may be provided on the receiver to support it from the floor and it will be appreciated that the cabinet can be of any suitable size to suit the size of the picture screens. CLAIMS

1. A television receiver comprising a cabinet having three or more substantially vertical sides, screen receiving apertures in at least two of said sides respectively, and picture screens in said apertures respectively each of said screens in use displaying the same picture whereby the picture can be viewed from at least two sides of the receiver.

2. A receiver according to claim 1 in which the cabinet is provided with three sides and screen receiving apertures are formed in each of said sides.

3. A receiver according to claim 2 in which the aforesaid three sides are disposed at 600 relative to each other and three minor sides are provided alternately arranged with said first mentioned sides.

4. A receiver according to claim 3 including a top for the cabinet and a control panel mounted on said top.

5. A receiver according to claim 4 in which said minor sides mount loudspeakers.

6. A television receiver according to claim 2 in which the three screens form part of a single picture tube.

7. A television receiver comprising the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
