Abstract

Drying agents.-A dehydrating composition moulded into a brick consists of inorganic porous material such as infusorial earth, a fibrous heat resistant such as asbestos, calcium chloride or similar hygroscopic substance, lime or the like for neutralizing acids, and a gas absorbent such as charcoal. Alternatively, it may consist of non- fibrous moisture absorbing material, hygroscopic material, and fibrous binding material, for example, infusorial earth, calcium chloride and asbestos. The ingredients are intimately mixed and moistened to form a paste which is moulded into bricks, cakes, wafers, &c. and dried by baking. After use, the bricks &c. may be restored to the original condition by baking &c.
