Abstract

A mould comprises two members 2, 4 each having a cavity 6, 8, the cavities 6, 8 together being representative of an article to be moulded. The two mould members 2, 4 are composed of a synthetic plastics material and are releasably secured together either by means of a clip 14 which is slidable over flange portions 10, 12 of the mould members, or by providing one of the mould members with a retaining groove on its flange, the retaining groove receiving the flange of the other mould member to secure the members together. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Extrusion moulds This invention relates to moulds, and more particularly to moulds for use in extrusion moulding processes.
According to the present invention there is provided an extrusion mould comprising two members each having a cavity, said cavities when brought together upon the two members coming into operational abutting relationship being representative of an article to be extruded into said cavity, said two members being releasably secured together. Preferably, said two members will be secured together by means of a clip slidable over flange portions of said members, or said members will be releasably secured together by said members being fitted together in slidable relationship.
Preferabl#, said two members will be composed of a synthetic plastics material which may, if desired, be transparent, and the two members will each incorporate means whereby the mould may be located in an extrusion moulding apparatus, such as for example the apparatus disclosed in our copending Application No. filed on even date herewith.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, an embodiment thereof will now be described, by way of example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:~ Figure 1 is an exploded, perspective view of a n 'mould according to the invention; Figure 2 is a front exploded view of the mauld of Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a sectional end elevation of the mould and clip in operational relationship; and Figure 4 shows an alternative form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, and firstly to Figs. 1 and 2, the mould comprises two mould members 2 and 4 having respectively cavities 6 and 8 which, when brought together upon the members 2 and 4 coming into operational abutting relationship, are together representative of an article to be produced in said mould.
As will be seen, each of mould members 2 and 4, has a peripheral flange, respectively referenced 10 and 12, which are brought together so as to be in face-to-face relationship when the two mould members 2 and 4 are in operational relationship. Said two flanges when in face-to-face relationship are together capable of receiving a clip or fastener 14 having an internal groove or recess 16 in which said flanges will locate so as to secure the two mould members 2 and 4 together.
Each of said mould members 2 and 4 includes a base or flat portion 18 and 20 respectively, said portions facilitating the fitting of the mould into and relative to an extrusion apparatus or pump for extruding the moulding material into the mould, said apparatus or pump preferably being in accordance with that described and illustrated in our copending Patent Application No. filed on even date herewith.
The mould members 2 and 4, as well as the clip or fastener 14, are composed of a synthetic plastics material which may be either transparent or translucent, but it will be appreciated that the synthetic plastics material may be opaque if preferred.
Fig. 3 of the drawings shows the mould members 2 and 4 and the clip or fastener 14 in operational relationship. From Fig. 3 it will be seen that the peripheral flanges 10 and 12 are in abutting relationship so as to define the cavity of the mould, and that the flanges are located in the groove or recess of the clip or fastener 14.
When the moulding material has been extruded into the cavity of the mould, the mould members 2 and 4 may be easily and quickly separated by simply removing the clip 14 so as to enable the mould members 2 and 4 to be moved apart and the moulded article to be removed.
In an alternative embodiment of the invention, referring now to Fig. 4, the two mould members are releasably secured together by providing one of the mould members with a retaining groove on the external periphery of its flange, said retaining groove being capable of receiving in sliding relationship the peripheral. After moulding has taken place, the mould members will be separated by sliding the members relative to one another to enable the moulded article to be r roved.
1. An extrusion mould comprising two members each having a cavity, said cavities when brought together upon the two members coming into operational abutting relationship being representative of an article to be extruded into said cavity, said two members being releasably secured together.
2. An extrusion mould as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said two members are releasably secured together by a clip which is slidably over flange portions of said members.
3. An extrusion moulding as claimed in Claim 2, wherein said clip has an internal groove for receiving the flange portions of said members.
4. An extrusion mould as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said members are releasably secured together in sliding relationship, one of said members having a retaining groove on the external periphery of its flange for receiving the peripheral flange of the other of said members.
5. An extrusion mould as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 5, each member has a flat base
