Abstract
In order to delay and/or make it impossible to carry out successful intrusions by criminals, a smoke-cartridge is connected to an alarm system to fill a protected location with a dense screen of smoke which immobilizes the intruders and protects other persons at the location.
Description
SPECIFICATION Smoke-cartridge device for crime prevention
In most cases of burglary time is a critical factor. If an intruder is delayed during his activities, his chances are diminished or lost altogether. With a suitable method to delay intruders, even without an alarmsystem, crime can be prevented.
The device I propose to use is a smoke-cartridge, such as used for various other purposes (like checking airflow in ducts etc.) and freely available through normal trade. These smoke-cartridges are for indoor use; are non-toxic; reasonably protectable from the fire-safety point; light-weight; easy to connect to an electric circuit and inexpensive. They emit a controlled amount of dense smoke (there is a choice of colours) and within seconds any room is visually blocked!
Standard cartridges emit enough smoke to fill even very large halls or passages very quickly. An intruder would find it impossible to carry out any search or even to find this way about.
If in addition there are objects of obstructions under the smoke-cover, the intruder is even in danger of getting caught on the spot.
Possible uses:
Private homes can be protected in the absence of the occupiers, room by room.
Public places could be flooded during nights or other critical periods.
Large vaults and passages leading to them, store rooms etc. likewise.
Cars and vans - private, armoured etc. could be fitted with a small-size cartridge to prevent theft ofor from them.
During a raid on a Bank or a similar establishment in business-hours instant flooding of the place with smoke would make impossible any aimed shooting by the robbers and would hinder their escape as well.
During a raid on a private home, while the occupiers are there, they could save themselves from physical harm by instant application of the smokescreen.
Security organisations could enhance their efficiency by this method.
Shortly: I propose to use smoke-cartridges of any make specially fitted with electric contacts which will become operational by circuit-breaking in the usual manner of standard burglar-alarms on doors, windows or other entry-points or passages of locations intended to be protected, with the alternative of manual application included.
In connection with Patent-Application No. 79 12 900 1 claim:
Device for prevention and inactivation of unauthorised entry into enclosed spaces - rooms, halls, lorries, vans, cars, carriages, vaults or storagecompartments, cabins or galleys of boats, characterised in that there is a smoke-generating canister (of commercially available types and sizes) connected to standard electrical circuit which is placed in the room or location to be protected and which is rendered operative by any interference caused by intrusion - the said electrical circuit being part of a standard alarm-system -(trip-wire or under carpet cables or infra-red-ray systems). Upon being activated, the smoke-generator fills the room with dense smoke thereby making any further moves by intruders ineffective.
The Claim is that the device - or application of it creates a complete physical obstruction to intruders by denial of visibility! (That is in contrast to various other patents which use smoke-generation as a signalling method, to call the attention of security).
