Abstract

A carrying case for tape cassettes, records or the like and which is foldable from a flat blank having flaps 16-18, 16'-18' formed with openings or eyes 12 which are brought into alignment when the blank is folded. The case is held in its assembled form by a strip of material threaded through the openings or eyes and which may be fitted with a buckle or the like to provide a carrying handle or shoulder strap. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Carrying Case This invention relates to a case such as a carrying or storage case, for tape cassettes, records or the like.
Such cases are known which are constructed from a flat blank and separate end pieces, all, preferably, sheathed in a plastic film. One common method of construction is to lay cut-out pieces of card material, corresponding to the front, rear top and bottom walls of a case on a plastics film and to cover the whole with another sheet of film. The two films are then heat sealed together between the pieces of card and around the entire blank which is also cut out from the plastics films during the same operation.
The blank is folded around the two end pieces which are covered with plastics film in much the same way as the blank, and secured by metal staples. Often a handle is attached to the lid to facilitate handling of the case.
In accordance with this invention we propose, a case such as a carrying case for tape cassettes, which is foldable from a flat blank having flaps formed with openings or eyes which are brought into alignment when the blank is folded the flaps then forming end walls of the case, and through which a filamentary material can be threaded to retain the case in its assembled form.
A carrying case according to this invention is simpler to manufacture than the conventional case described above and also has the advantage that it can be stored and transported in the flat with considerable saving of cost. Further, no handle is necessary since the filamentary material, which is preferably a flat strip, can be fitted with a buckle or any other suitable connecting means to permit use as a carrying handle or shoulder strap. A handle may, however, be attached to the blank if desired.
A prefered embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings of which: Figure 1 shows a flat blank which can be folded to produce a case according to this invention and, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the blank of Figure 1 which is folded and secured in its assemble position by a strap.
Referring first to Figure 1, the flat blank 10 is formed by cutting a cardboard blank to the required shape, at the same time piercing eyes 12 and preferably also scoring along each of the fold lines 14. The cardboard blank is then placed between films of plastic material 1 5 (one shown) which are heat sealed together and severed around the periphery of the blank and through the openings or eyes 12, thus completely enclosing the cardboard.
To assemble the case as shown in Figure 2 the blank 10 is folded such that the eyes 12 in the end flaps 16,17 and 18 or 16', 17' and 18' respectively are aligned. The strap 20 is then threaded through the eyes and by virtue of friction holds the case in the assembled position. A buckle 22 is provided for interconnecting the free ends of the strap to form a handle or shoulder strap.
Claims
1. A carrying case which is foldable from a flat blank having flaps formed with openings or eyes which are brought into alignment when the blank is folded, the flaps then forming end walls of the case, and through which filamentary material can be threaded to retain the case in its assembled form.
2. A carrying case according to claim 1) wherein the blank comprises a sheet of cardboard enclosed between films of plastics material which are welded together around the periphery of the blank and through the openings or eyes.
3. A carrying case according to claim 1) and claim 2) wherein the filamentary material comprises a flat strip fitted with a buckle or the like to permit use as a carrying handle or shoulder strap.
4. A carrying case constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
