Abstract

A shelf panel for a stand or rack is formed as a grid or grating in which the different elements (3) are supported by shaped battens (5) which are able to fit neatly over cross- members (1) provided by the stand or rack. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A Shelf Panel for a Stand or Rack Wooden bases, chipboard bases or smooth or flanged bases are used as support means for stands and racks for heavy loads for pallets. The first have the disadvantage that in the event of fire they act as a combustible source and thus promote the fire, while water used to extinguish the fire cannot flow through the latter type of base. The action of water sprinklers and the like is thus seriously affected. Attempts have therefore been made to produce a permeable flat surface using grids or gratings. This solution has not proved successful since the insertion of such grids or gratings is hindered in particular by the narrow bars and crosspieces, and the stored material is damaged. This solution is furthermore very expensive.
Grids or gratings are used, especially on account of fire hazard, as supports for stands and racks used for heavy loads and pallets. These grids or gratings rest on the full length of the beams of such stands and racks, thereby resulting in a corresponding loss of space. Moreover, the localised stability is not good when handling loads with fork-lift trucks.
Grids or gratings are used, especially on account of fire hazard, as supports for stands and racks used for heavy loads and pallets, and should in particular provide an ideal solution to the problem. However, in actual fact they take up part of the utilisable height and moreover are unable to guide and direct water away in a particular and selective manner. Loss of space should also be avoided in all types of grids and gratings.
The inventor seeks to obviate these disadvantages. The inventor proposes to form the base from shaped sections laid side by side and separated from one another by a gap. The size of the surface to permit the flow of water can thus be determined by the gap between the shaped sections, by the number of shaped sections and thus gaps, and by holes in the shaped sections.
The shaped sections can be inserted in transverse strips or battens or joined to the latter by welding or the like. In addition, the transverse strips or battens in which the longitudinal shaped sections are inserted may be designed in such a way that they can be inserted in the beams of the stands or racks so that the height is not reduced by the base of the shaped section (apart from the wall thickness of the side batten). In addition, it is possible to connect the side battens and the longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections to one another in a positive-locking and frictional manner by means of an interlocking arrangement so that the interlocking connection is able to absorb the forces resulting from the load.
The intention of the inventor is to eliminate this disadvantage. The inventor proposes to provide the grid or grating with one or more side battens which rest on the supporting beams and accommodate all types of grids and gratings so that they are situated between the beams. There is no hindrance or interference in handling by virtue of the fact that the supporting batten and grid or grating are flush at their upper surface.
The inventor proposes to provide the grid or grating with side battens that rest on the supporting beams in such a way that the grid or grating is located between the beams. The side battens can be connected to the grid or grating, can form the lateral termination of the grid or grating, or can serve only as a supporting element for the grid or grating. By virtue of the side batten acting as a supporting batten, the grid or grating is virtually flush with the beam at their upper surfaces. There is thus no hindrance or interference during handling and virtually the complete height is utilisable.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an arrangement of two beams (1) of a pallet stand that are inserted in frames (2). The base (3), which may consist of a plurality of parts (only one element is illustrated here) is formed from longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections (4) which rest on side battens (5) or are rigidly connected to the latter by welding, etc. These sheet metal shaped sections are provided with holes (6) on account of the large necessary surface required for the flow of water. A water flow gap (7) is provided between the shaped sections.
Figure 2 illustrates a grid or grating (3), which rests via its side battens (5) on the supporting beam (1) of the stand or rack. Only the sheet metal wall thickness of the side batten is lost.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the base (3). The longitudinal shaped sections (4) rest on the flange (5a) of the side batten (5). The water flow gap (7) is located between the said shaped sections. Holes (6) are provided in all the longitudinal shaped sections. The shaped sections can also be gable-shaped or the like and provided with holes.
Figure 4 is a section along the line lV-lV of Figure 3'The longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections (4) rest on the flange of the side batten, namely on 5a. The said shaped sections are provided with holes (6). (9) denotes a spacer which determines the gap width between the individual longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections.
Figure 5 is, like Figure 3, a longitudinal section through the side batten (5) and longitudinal sheet metal shaped section (4). The side batten (5) is shaped so that its hook-shaped portion (8) is inserted into the cut-out section (7a) of the longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections (4). The side batten (5) is provided with a stop at its end so that the longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections cannot be displaced, and is closed at its other end by a locking device after insertion of the lateral sheet metal shaped sections.
The longitudinal sheet metal shaped sections have spaces to provide the necessary gap between them.
Figure 6 shows a supporting beam (1) with its suspension angle pieces (10) for the stand or rack columns, on which grids and gratings of various types can be supported. The upper edge 11 of the beam is only slightly lower than the upper edge (8) of the grid of grating 3.
