Abstract

The contact screen on a single light transmitting support film (1) has two or more screen fields (2,3,4,5), each of these screen fields (2,3,4,5) being intended for a different colour component. The screen fields (2,3,4,5) are formed of lines producing a grid, the lines of each screen field (2,3,4,5) being differently inclined relative to the lines of the other screen fields. With the unitary support film (1) carrying two or more screen fields (2,3,4,5), the manufacturing process not only for the contact screen, but also for each of the part-coloured images of different colour components is appreciable rationalised. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Contact Screen for Graphic Reproduction Processes In a graphic reproduction process for colour printing, several part-coloured images of the original are obtained. Each of these part-coloured images consists of a particular colour component of which the choice is made in accordance with the subject-matter of the picture or according to the qualitatively best method in dependence on its wavelength, and is thereby directed to a precisely measurable colour. For the production of the part-coloured image, contact screens are used which permit a variation of the gradation. To this end, there takes place an exposure of each partcoloured image with the intensity of the corresponding colour component, in contact with the transparent contact screen lying thereon. The colour component is obtained from the original with a scanner or with a filter from the photographic image of the original. Until now, the contact screens are connected together with an adhesive tape, in order to obtain a screened separation of two or more colours with screen lines running at different angles.
The invention now consists in that at least the two screens necessary for the different colour components are located on a single support film, as is defined in claim 1. Thereby, the manufacturing process both of the contact screen and of the monochromatic picture is appreciably rationalised.
A practical example of the invention for four colour printing is explained with reference to the following figures. There is shown: Figure 1 the screen fields on a light transmissive support film of a contact screen, and Figure 2 a cross-section of the support film with the triangularly formed screen elements.
As can be seen from Figure 1, the screen elements 6, of the individual screen fields 2,3,4,5 extend along straight lines, which form a grid or lattice in each of the screen fields 2,3,4,5. The lines of each of the screen fields 2,3,4,5 are inclined at an angle different from that of the lines of the other screen fields.
In other practical examples, the lines of the screen fields 2,3,4,5 can consist of broken or dotted lines. The form of the grid shown in Figure 1 can be produced by six edged, triangular or other shapes of grid.
The screen fields 2,3,4 and 5 each intended for a colour component are located on an integral light transmitting film 1 of synthetic material and are in direct adjacency with each other. Spacing can however be provided between the individual screen fields.
The contact screen of this construction is produced photographically on a light transmitting synthetic film, which is provided with a photosensitive layer. Such contact screens can be used for example in offset and relief processes, in photography and in typography.
