Abstract

A plastics spring has the form of a circle with a segment removed, the spring being stressed by forces tending to close or open the circle. The spring is injection moulded in reinforced nylon. The spring may be used in a hub or a castor, or as part of a wheelbarrow, platform, article of furniture, stand, truck or trolley. It may be moulded integrally with the article. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements to plastic springs The object of the invention is to make a plastic spring that can give impact resistance to ground engaging vehicles and static machine.
The plastic spring is one that will become as well as a spring also part of the equipment that requires insulating from impact. If it is a wheelbarrow part of the wheel barrow, if a platform, furnishing or stand part of the platform, furnishing and stand. If a truck or trolley, part of the truck or trolley.
However, the spring can be part of a small fitment attached and holding the axle of a Trolley, Truck or Wheelbarrow and other things.
The plastic spring will be described as a circle of plastic with a segment cut from it giving the appearance of a circlip. The force closing or opening the circle of plastic where the segment was removed giving the tension and spring required. Reinforced maranyl (nylon) returns efficiently to its normal shape and would probably be the best plastic to use for these type of industrial springs.
How these springs are attached to each article required to be made impact resistant could be different in a number of cases. These cases would be where the spring and article has been injection moulded in the one operation.
Examples of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure A is a side elevation of a spring fork according to the present invention Figure B is a side elevation of a spring fork according to the present invention.
Figure C is the end elevation of a single spring support or hub, according to the present invention.
Figure D is an exploded view of a spring support or hub according to the present invention.
Figure E is a side-elevation of a composite spring according to the present invention.
Figure F is a side elevation of support spring according to the present invention.
Figure Gis a side elevation of a support spring for mechanical purposes according to the present invention.
Figure H is a side elevation of a composite spring according to the present invention.
The springs shown on Figs. E and H could be used as dampers for vibration as well as for impact resistance. The same medium for impact resistance as shown on Figs. A, B, C and D are used on applications of "Improve- ments to Castors" No. 35782/78, and "Im- provements to Plastic and Steel Castors" No.
37101/78.
1. A plastic spring circular in shape, which is open ended having a segment missing.
The two open ends of the circular plastic spring could be attached integrally or otherwise to a component or separate components and the impact resistance given to the component or components would come from the expenditure of force required in closing the open ends of the plastic spring or in bypassing them.
2. A plastic spring as claimed in claim (1) but where one of the open ends of the spring has an extended arm attaching it to the axle of a wheel of a truck or wheelbarrow or the like, and the othr end of the spring is attached to the chassis of the truck or wheelbarrow, two springs being required for a wheel barrow, four or eight required for a truck.
3. A plastic spring as claimed in claim (1) but where the springs or a spring can be used in a castor to support the axle of the wheel or wheels.
4. A plastic spring as claimed in claim (1) but where a numerous number of plastic springs are combined integrally in a component.
5. A plastic spring as claimed in claim (1) but where the spring is used in the chassis of a light vehicle--bicycle or the like.
