Abstract

There is described a device for adjusting analogue values in a circuit arrangement 16 which is controlled in analogue manner, a digital electronic system being connected in advance of the circuit arrangement 16, and the device being of such a nature that an operator can adjust, by way of a rotary actuating element 5, analogue values in an apparatus which contains the digital electronic system, for example a radio receiver, e.g. for volume or tone control purposes. Provided for this purpose is a pulse generator 1 which is operated by means of the rotary actuating element 5 and the pulses of which are, according to the direction of rotation of the rotary actuating element 5, counted into the forwards or the backwards input of a forwards/backwards counter 9. The counter state in digital form at output 10 is converted by a digital/analogue converter 11 into a corresponding analogue value at an output 14 which controls the analogue circuit arrangement 16 which in turn is operatively connected with indication or reproduction means 19. 16 may be e.g. a radio-receiver final stage and 19 may be e.g. a loudspeaker. 19 may be a lamp directly connected to output 14. In another embodiment a microprocessor is provided which, by writing in and subsequently reading out the pulses into and from a store, performs the function of the counter 9. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A device for adjusting analogue values The invention relates to a device for adjusting analogue values at the output of a digital electronic system with a counter and a microprocessor and/or digital/analogue converter co-operating with the counter, a device which is controlled in analogue manner being connected subsequent to the digital system.
Devices of this kind are known per se.
For example, the input of an analogue value for adjusting an analogue value at the output of a digital electronic system can be effected by means of a potentiometer, the resistance value of which can be converted by an analogue/digital converter into a sequence of digital pulses and be transmitted to the respective digital system. The digitalised analogue value can in the digital part of the device be compared or mixed in digital form with other digital values. The digital value resulting therefrom can be retransmitted to a digital/analogue converter, in which this value can be converted back into an analogue value.
The digitalisation of the value input in analogue manner at the input side into the system is in many respects complicated and expensive.
Furthermore, in the case of modern electronic timepieces it is known to introduce adjusting values into a digital electronic system by means of an electronic pulse transmitter, the output of which can be connected by one or more keys to the input of a digital counter. Upon actuation of the key or keys, the adjusting pulses generated in the electronic pulse transmitter are introduced into a forwards-counting input or a backwardscounting input of the counter and the counter state is raised or lowered.
The task of the present invention is to provide a device which puts the operator into the position of being able to adjust in the usual manner all values in an apparatus which contains the digital electronic system, in which respect the input is to be effected by way of a rotary motion and the device is to be able to be produced inexpensively and in a simple mode of construction.
According to the invention, there is provided a device for adjusting analogue values at the output of a digital electronic system with a counter and a microprocessor and/or digital/analogue converter co-operating electrically with the counter, a device which is controlled in analogue manner being connected subsequent to the digital system, characterised in that, for the digitalisation of an analogue value that is to be input, there is connected in advance of the system an electromechanical pulse generator having a manuallyrotatable actuating element, the pulses of or derived from which generator can be counted into the counter, and in that the digital counter content can be converted by the micro-processor and/or digital/analogue convertor into an analogue value the magnitude of which is variable as a function of or in dependence upon the rotary angular position of the actuating element of the electro-mechanical pulse generator, and connected subsequent to an analogue output of the microprocessor or digital/analogue converter is an arrangement or device which is controlled by this and the reaction of which to the said analogue value is perceptible by the operator.
The arrangement or device connected subsequent to the output of the microprocessor or digital/analogue converter can for example represent a circuit arrangement for controlling and/or regulating electrical power as well as electrical voltages and currents, frequencies and intervals of time.
In the accompanying drawings, which show, by way of example, two embodiments of the invention: Figure 1 shows a device, constructed in accordance with the invention, in a first exemplary embodiment which has substantially a pulse generator, a forwards/backwards counter and a digital/analogue converter; and Figure 2 shows a device, constructed in accordance with the invention, in a second exemplary embodiment, with a pulse generator, a microprocessor, a non-volatile store and a digital/analogue converter.
Referring to the drawings, the device shown in Figure 1 has a pulse generator 1, in which pulseemitting elements 2, which are mounted on a rotary body so as to be rotary about the axis of a shaft 3, co-operate with pulse-receiving elements 4, which are arranged stationarily. Arranged also on the shaft 3 of the pulse generator 1 is an actuating element 5 for the manual rotation of the said shaft 3. The interaction of the pulse-emitting elements 2 with at least two pulse-receiving elements 4 allows, by virtue of an appropriate spatial distribution of these elements 4 about the axis of rotation, the generation of at least two pulses which are mutually offset in time but which partially overlap. These pulses are supplied to an electronic circuit 6, which recognises, from the phase relationship of the two pulses produced, the direction of rotation of the pulse generator shaft 3 and supplies the produced pulses, depending on the direction of rotation of the generator shaft 3, either to the forwards-counting input 7 or to the backwardscounting input 8 of a forwards/backwards counter 9. The output 10 of the counter 9 is connected both to the input 1 5 of a digital/analogue converter 11 and directly to the decoder input 12 of an electronic digital indicating device 13. The output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11 is on the one hand connected to a further decoder input 12' of the electronic indicating device 13, and on the other hand has electrically connected thereto a subsequent analogue circuit 16.This circuit 1 6 could, for example, be an anaiogue-operating amplifier stage or tone-control stage of a radio receiver.
Designated by 1 9 is indication or reproduction means which co-operates electrically with the circuit 1 6.
Upon rotation of the actuating element 5, which is coupied mechanically to the pulse generator shaft 3, in accordance with the direction of rotation of the latter the state of the forwards/backwards counter 9 is raised or lowered. The counter state which lies in digital form at the output 10 or the forwards/backwards counter 9 is convertible by the digital/analogue converter 11, the input 1 5 of which is connected to said output 10 of the forwards/backwards counter 9, into an analogue value which corresponds to the counter state, for example a voltage value. Indicatable in digital form by the indicating device 13 which is connected subsequent to both the forwards/backwards counter 9 and the digital/anaiogue converter 11, is, selectively, the digital counter state or the analogue value at the output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11 , for example a voltage value. Controlled by the analogue value at the output 14 is the circuit arrangement 16, which for its part is operatively connected with the indication or reproduction means.
If, for example, the analogue circuit arrangement is designed as the final stage of a radio receiver, then the indication or reproduction means 1 9 can be a loudspeaker.
The operator will, upon rotation of the actuating element, be able to perceive the sound from the loudspeaker connected to the amplifier stage and adjust the desired volume.
The means 19 can also be designed in such a way that the user of the device can read off exactly on it the magnitude of the analogue value at the output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11.
Furthermore, it also lies within the scope of the invention to connect the means 19, for example a lamp, electrically directly to the output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11.
The analogue electronic circuit 1 6 is provided with indication or reproduction means 19, for example a sound source or a light source, through the reaction of which to the analogue value at the output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11 the user of the device can read off or estimate the magnitude of the analog value:If, upon each putting-into-operation of the apparatus, the values of which are adjustable with the device in accordance with the invention, the desired analogue value, for example a voltage value, is to be a value at the output 14 of the digital/analogue converter 11 which corresponds to a mean value of the adjustable value range, then by way of a pre-programmable fixed store (PROM) 17, the outputs 18, 18' of which are connected to the inputs 7, 8 of the counter 9, the counter state of the counter 9 can, upon each putting-into-service, be set to this "mean value".
In the case of the exemplary embodiment shown in Figure 2, the pulses which are produced by the pulse-emitting and pulse-receiving elements 2 and 4 of the pulse generator 1 and which are offset in time but which partially overlap are fed to the inputs 20, 20' of a microprocessor 21. An electronic circuit contained in the microprocessor 21 recognises, from the phase relationship of the pulses, the direction of rotation of the pulsegenerator shaft 3 and conducts the produced pulses to the forwards-counting input 22 or the backwards-counting input 23 of a non-volatile store 24 which is arranged subsequent to the microprocessor 21. The store content of this store 24 can be read out again by the microprocessor 21 and be introduced, for conversion into an analogue value, into a digital/analogue converter 25 which is arranged subsequent to the microprocessor 21. Connected to an output 26 of the digital/analogue converter 25 there can be an analogue circuit arrangement 16, which reacts to the analogue value, which is adjustable by means of the circuit constructed in accordance with the invention, by delivery of a signal to the indication or reproduction means 1 9 arranged subsequent to said arrangement 1 6.
