Abstract

A water closet comprises a base stand 2, a bowl 1 having a flushing rim 12, and a discharge syphon pipe 3 feeding a downfall exit 22, the bowl having a pivotable false bottom 4 forming a discharge valve aligned with the downfall exit 22 and being operable to open and close by means of a lever means 42-45 provided on the stand; the water closet functioning in the usual way with the bottom closed when there is plenty of flushing water, excrement being flushed through the syphon pipe when the water level in the bowl reaches a sufficient head; and when there is a shortage of flushing water the false bottom of the bowl is pivoted down to let excrement accumulated in the bowl bottom fall directly into the downfall exit 22. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Water Closet The present invention relates to a water closet, and more particularly to a water closet comprising a base stand, a bowl and a syphon pipe.
A conventional water closet is satisfactory when there is a plentiful supply of flushing water; when the water level in the bowl reaches a desired level, the syphon effect discharges the excrement in the bowl to a downfall exit thereunder. However, an insufficient or discontinued flushing water supply would result in accumulation of excrement in the bowl and cause smell and filth. This situation is even more serious in a public toilet.
The present invention provides a water closet comprising a bowl having on its upper rim a flushing water supply inlet at the rear thereof and a generally annular water channel with flushing holes disposed therearound, the bowl resting upon a straight walled stand having a base, and a syphon pipe being attached to the bottom of the bowl with its suction end immersed under the water level of the bowl bottom and its exit end in a downfall exit disposed in the center of the stand base and aligned with the bowl bottom, the bowl being provided with a pivotable false bottom operable by lever means to close and open when there is a plentiful supply of flushing water or when a shortage of flushing water occurs, respectively, whereby excrement in the bowl may be discharged through the opened false bottom directly into the downfall exit disposed under the bowl bottom.
Thus there is provided a bowl with a pivotable false bottom to be operable to close or open by a lever means disposed on the stand. Under normal conditions the false bottom is closed and the water closet functions normally, while upon a shortage of flushing water supply occurring the bottom is swung open by the lever means to let the excrement in the bowl fall directly into the downfall exit aligned thereunder to avoid filth and smell due to accumulation of excrement.
The invention will be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation sectional view of a preferred embodiment of a water closet according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a plan view, partially in section, of the embodiment shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a side elevation sectional view of another embodiment of a water closet according to the invention; and Figure 4 is a plan view, partially in section, of the embodiment shown in Figure 3.
The water closet shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a bowl 1, a straight walled base stand 2 and a syphon pipe 3. The bowl 1 has on its upper rim a flusing water supply inlet 13 at the rear thereof, a generally annular water channel 12 with flushing holes 11 disposed therearound, and a false bottom 4 which is pivotable downwardly.
The bowl 1 rests upon the straight walled stand 2 which has a base 21. The syphon pipe 3 is attached to the bottom of the bowl with its suction end 31 immersed under the water level of the false bottom 4 and its exit end 32 in a downfall exit 22 disposed in the center of the stand base 21 and aligned with a bowl bottom downfall opening 14.
The false bottom 4 is pivotally mounted under the bowl by a hinge 15 having a pivot pin 41. The false bottom 4 is operable to open and close through lever members 43-44 articulated at a pivot pin 42. The lever member 43 is attached under the false bottom 4, and the free end of the lever member 44 has a handle knob 45 passing through a hole 23 disposed in the front wall of the stand 2.
When the flushing water supply is normal the false bottom 4 is in the closed position, and excrement accumulated in the bottom 4 is discharged throug the syphon pipe 3 in the usual manner. When a shortage or lack of flushing water supply occurs, tho false bottom 4 is opened by pulling the knob 45 out from the hole 23, as shown in the dash-dotted line position in Figure 1, The excrement in the bowl bottom 4 is then discharged by direct downfall to the exit 22. After discharge, the false bottom may be closed by pushing the knob 45 through the hole 23 to avoid any bad smell ascending from the pit under the exit 22.
The water closet shown in Figures 3 and 4 has the same construction as the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, except that the hinge structure is somewhat different. The false bottom 4 is hinged through a pivot shaft 41a having one end retained in a bearing seat 24 provided in one side wall of the stand 2. The free end of the shaft 41 a after passing through a bearing hole 25 in the opposite wall of the stand 2 is articulated through a pivot pin 42a to a lever member 44a, the free end of which is provided with a handle knob 45a.
When the flushing water supply is normal the false bottom 4 is closed by turning the shaft 41a clockwise through operation of the lever member 44a and then pushing the handle knob 45a against the stand wall to be in a vertical position with respect to the shaft 41 a, and inserting the lever member 44a into a clamp 26 disposed outside the stand wall. When a shortage or lack of flushing water supply occurs, the false bottom 4 is swung open by pulling out the lever member 44a from the clamp 26, and excrement in the bowl bottom is discharged by direct downfall to the exit 22. After discharging, the false bottom 4 may be again closed to avoid any smell ascending from the pit under the exit 22.
In both embodiments described above, the separation of the bowl and stand structure is to facilitate the installation of the lever means before assembling the bowl with the stand. The bowl may be securely fitted on the stand by means of mating grooves or the bowl and stand may be glued together with suitable adhesive agent.
Furthermore, a screwed hole 5 is provided at the rear wall of the stand and passes through the syphon pipe wall to facilitate cleaning of the syphon pipe with a wire in case of blockage.
In either embodiment described above, the problem of accumulation of excrement in the bowl is solved in a proper way even when the flushing water supply is unavailable.
