Abstract

A fishing float comprises: a buoyancy member (1) having two oppositely directed blind bores (10, 11) opening to the exterior of the buoyancy member; an upper stem or antenna (2) having a spigot (12) engageable in one of the bores; a lower stem or leg (3) having a spigot engageable in the other of the bores; a ring member (4) having an eye for a fishing line and an aperture through which the spigot of the upper stem can be passed to locate the ring member on the stem; and a band (5) for frictionally gripping the lower stem to hold the fishing line fast therewith. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing Float Field of the Invention The present invention relates to fishing floats.
A known fishing float comprises a hollow plastics buoyancy member (or buoyancy bead) having two oppositely directly blind bores opening to the exterior of the head, a lower stem (or leg) engageable in one of the bores, and an upper stem (for antenna) engageable in the other bore, the lower stem being provided with an eye for a fishing line. This float is suitable for the English style float fishing where the fishing line is passed through an eye at the lower end of the float. The buoyancy member can be readily interchanged with other such buoyancy members of different buoyancies, coloration or other characteristics without unthreading the fishing line from the eye. Similarly the upper stem can be readily interchanged with other such upper stems having different characteristics such as length or coloration.
The present invention sets out to provide a float suitable for the continental style of float fishing where the fishing line is passed through an eye above the buoyancy member and is held fast to the float below the buoyancy member and in which the lower stem, the buoyancy member and the upper stem can be interchanged with other such component parts of different characteristics.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a fishing float comprising: a buoyancy member having two oppositely directed blind bores opening to the exterior of the bead; and upper stem (or antenna) having a spigot engageable in one of the bores; a lower stem (or leg) having a spigot engageable in the other of the bores; a ring member having an eye for a fishing line and an aperture through which the spigot of the upper stem can be passed to locate the member on the upper stem; and a band for frictionally gripping the lower stem to hold the fishing line fast therewith.
Preferably each spigot is engageable in either of the blind bores so that the float can be assembled with the buoyancy member in either of two opposite attitudes relative to the upper stem and the lower stem.
Afishing float embodying the invention is de scribed below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 shows a side view of the float attached to a fishing line; Figure 2 shows a side view, partly cut away, of the component parts of the float; Figure 3 shows a side view of the buoyancy member of the float in an alternative position; and Figure 4 shows on an enlarged scale, a perspective view of a ring member of the float.
Referring to the drawings, the float shown therein comprises a buoyancy member 1, an upper stem or antenna 2, a lower stem or leg 3, a ring member 4 and a line-securing band 5.
The buoyancy member 1 is hollow and is formed of two shells la and 1 b watertightly fitted together.
The buoyancy bead is elongate in shape and at opposite ends is provided with blind bores 10 and 11 respectively opening to the exterior of the member, the bores 10 and 11 being of like dimensions.
The antenna 2 is formed with a spigot 12 at its lower end and the leg 2 is formed with a spigot 13 at its upper end, the spigots 12 and 13 being of like dimensions. Each spigot is a push-fit into either of the blind bores.
The ring member 4 is formed with an aperture 6 in which either spigot is a sliding fit an an eye 7 for a fishing line.
The band 5 is made of resilient material and can be slid onto the leg 2 to frictionally grip the leg.
The float is assembled by sliding the spigot 12 of the antenna 2 through the aperture ofthe ring member 4 and then inserting the spigot 12 into one of the bores 10 and 11, inserting the spigot 13 of the leg 3 into the other of the bores 11 and 12, and sliding the band 5 onto the leg 3. The float may be assembled with the buoyancy bead either in the attitude shown in Figure 2 or in the reverse attitude shown in Figure 3, as desired.
In use of the float, a fishing line 14 is threaded through the small aperture of the ring member 4 and through the band 5 (the band being temporarily removed from the leg 3 for this purpose and the being replaced on the leg) the band gripping the line and holding the float at a desired position along the line.
If desired, any or all of the component parts 1, 2 and 3 of the float may be interchanged with other such component parts having different characteristics, while fishing and without having to unthread the fishing line from either the ring member 4 or the band 5.

Claims (3)

1. A fishing float comprising: a buoyancy member having two oppositely directed blind bores opening to the exterior of the buoyancy member; an upper stem (or antenna) having a spigot engageable in one of the bores; a lower stem (or leg) having a spigot engageable in the other of the bores; a ring member having an eye for a fishing line and an aperture through which the spigot of the upper stem can be passed to locate the member on the upper stem; and a band for frictionally gripping the lower stem to hold the fishing line fast therewith.
2. A fishing float according to claim 1, wherein each spigot is engageable in either of the blind bores so that the float can be assembled with the buoyancy member in either of two opposite attitudes relative to the upper stem and the lower stem.
3. A fishing float according to claim 1, substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
