Abstract

A trailer is convertible between a boat trailer and a box trailer by the removal and addition of appropriate parts. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION The combined boat/box trailer The Novelty aspect of the design and Invention lies in the transformation of the Box Trailer into a Boat Trailer by the complete removal of the Box from the Chassis, and the addition of three Keel Rollers, two Bilge Rollers, a length of metal Backbone together with the Towing Coupling and Jockey Wheel It is the actual transformation of the Box Trailer into a Boat Trailer and vice-versa, which forms the very nucleus of the Invention.
Follow square section metal is used to form the Backbone two separate pieces being employed, one in a smaller size which readily fits into the other making one long section being then secured by placing the Keel Roller tube through the corresponding drilled holes in both pieces of Backbone, further making secure by placing a nut on the threaded end of the Keel Roller tube.
The Axle itself is adjustable and may be extended.
When the machine is required as a Box Trailer the Axle is not extended. When the machine is being used as a Boat Trailer the Axle may be extended through three positions to suit the width of the vessel being carried.
The Bilge Roller clamps set on each Axle sleeve are also adjustable and may be aligned to suit the position of the Bilge of the vessel being carried.
The two outer sleeves on the Main Axle also hold the Suspension and Road Wheel Units, together with the Mudguards.
The Main Axle is secured to the Backbone by means of "U" Bolts and Plates which allows movement of the Axle along the Backbone to any desired position, and to prevent the Axle twisting on the Backbone, metal pieces are welded to the Main Axle on either side of the Backbone position.
The Trailer Box is secured to the Chassis employing two Stop-Lugs which, going firstly through the floor of the Box, fit into the aligned Bilge Roller clamps set on the Axle sleeves and are then fully secured by operating the clamp turnscrew.
The Ball Coupling is set on a short piece of hollow section square metal in a size larger than either piece of Backbone which allows sliding on. It is then securged with a single nut and bolt through corresponding drilled holes.
The Jockey Wheel clamp is fitted to the side of the Ball Coupling sleeve, affording utilisation when the machine is in either Box Trailer or Boat Trailer form.
The Lighting Set is lightly held to the Box Trailer by two bolts with Wing Nuts which allows removal of the Set to be placed on the rear of the vessel when the machine is in Boat Trailer form.
In the event that the Application For The Grant Of A Patent be successful on the Combined Boat/Box Trailer, any future product sold or manufactured by any Person, Firm or Company which incorporates the transformation of a Box Trailer into a Boat Trailer with extending Axle, the vice-versa, will be resisted through the Protection afforded by the Patent.
This will include any such machine with or without the use of an extending axle, the addition or omission of Keel Rollers, Bilge Rollers, Jockey Wheel and Winch Post with Bow Snubber and Winch in any capacity of pull.
Also included in the Claim would be the use or not of Indespension or Leaf Sprung Units, together with ordinary Hub Road Wheel Units or the use of Solid Axles with End-Bearings and Back Plates used otherwise in the Motor Car Manufacturing Industry as Braking Systems.
Automatic, Hydraulic, or Pintle Couplings are included in the Claim, together with solid or collapsible Trailer Box in either Wood, Plastic or Metal, and using either Round, Channel or Square section Metals in either Steel or Iron or Aluminium for the Chassis and Axle parts.
Other items in the Claim would be the use of any size of road Tyre either pneumatic or solid and the fitment of any Trailer Box Cover in either Metal, Canvas, Wood or Plastic together with Rope Hooks in any shape.
Finally, with or without the use of a removable or static Ladder Rack.
