Abstract
Plastics bath-tubs are stored upright and nested into one another on a pallet or the like, each bath-tub being carried essentially by a supporting member 4 fitted to the tub body 2 behind the individual tub edge. The individual supporting members are dimensioned in such a way that the delicate tub edge is supported with the necessary clearance from the top of the pallet 6 and forms a means for limiting insertion of the tubs into one another. An edge covering 8 may also be provided. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Means for storing bath-tubs
The invention concerns handling and storing plastics bath-tubs.
As a rule bath-tubs are stored on pallets in packages - i.e. 5 to 10 bath-tubs are nested into one another.
By means of this procedure metal bath-tubs can be placed on pallets in the upright position inserted into one another. In addition to favourable utilization of space, the upright arrangement makes simple loosening of the package possible, whereby the bath-tubs can be tipped out of one another singly.
In the case of plastic bath-tubs, however, this advantageous possibility of storage cannot be used, since the protruding tub edge in particular is relativeliy fragile and, as a result of this, high reject quotas for handling arise with this potentially advantageous storage possibility. For this reason plastic bath-tubs are stored and handled in the horizontal position inserted into one another on pallets. Apart from the unfavourable utilization of space with this type of storage, it is also necessary to employ two workers for removing individual bath-tubs from the stack.
The invention is therefore based on the task of making it possible to use the advantageous uprightstorage method with plastics bath-tubs as well.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided in the handling and storage of plastics bath-tubs, the tubs are stored upright and nested into one another on a pallet or the like, and a tub is carried essentially buy a supporting member which is fitted to the tub body behind the individual tub edge and which is dimensioned in such a way that the delicate tub edge, which is tip-stretched on the tub body, is supported with clearance from the top of the pallet or the like and forms a limiting means for limiting its insertion into an adjacent tub.
In order that the invention can be clearly understood an embodiment will now be described with reference to the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plastic bath-tub, with packing partially represented in the section;
Figure 2 shows a lateral view of the stacking or unstacking process for the bath-tubs on a pallet;
Figure 3 shows a lateral view of a package of the bath-tubs stacked on a pallet;
Figure 4 shows part of Figure 3 represented on an enlarged scale and partially sectioned.
In Figures 1 to 4 plastics bath-tubs 1 made of acrylic glass etc. are represented. The plastics bathtubs 1 each essentially consist of a tub body 2 and a tub edge 3. The individual bath-tubs are stored nesting in one another on the top 7 of a pallet 6 in the upright position, as is particularly clear from Figures 2 and 3. For this purpose a supporting member 4 is arranged on the lower face of the tub body 2, which is dimensioned in such a way that the tub edge is supported with suitable clearance from the top 7 of the pallet 6; in addition, it acts as a spacer between the individual plastics bath-tubs 1. Here the supporting member - which is made of folded corrugated cardboard - is shaped into a rectangular and square tube, the length of which corresponds to the width of the plastics bath-tub 1.In order to increase stability in the square tube, an additional diagonal member is folded in.
Further to this, most if not the whole tub edge 3 is lined with an allround protective covering 8, which preferably also consists of folded corrugated cardboard. In order to position the storage material simply, the supporting member4 and the protective covering 8 offer an advantage in that they are joined together. By this means the entire storage material can simply be pushed over the edge of the tub from the side, and then fixed in the fitting position. The covering 8 is not shown at 5 to show more clearly the bath tub edge underneath.
When the individual bath-tubs are being stacked up on the top of the pallet, in the case of the first plastic bath-tub a wedge-shaped piece 9 is, in addition, inserted under the tub body 2, with the result that the plastics bath-tub 1 is supported in the vertical position on the pallet. The individual plastics bath-tubs 1, as represented in Figure 2 in particular, can now be stored on the pallet behind one another in the upright position, and nesting into one another.
In Figure 3, for example, a package of eight plastics bath-tubs 1 nesting in one another is shown. In order to continue to safeguard handling, the package can for example be shrunk on the pallet by means of shrinkage foil andior tied securely with plastic bands.
With the embodiment described the following is achieved: the area of the plastic bath-tub susceptible to breakage is carried by the supporting member fitted to the tub body at non-sensitive point with sufficient clearance between the tub and the top of the pallet. Here there is the advantage that the whole tub edge is packed with corrugated cardboard, whereby the supporting member can then be attached to the corrugated cardboard running along the edge of the tub, and the whole packing and the corrugated cardboard with the attached supporting member can be slid over the tub in one operation.
Using this method plastic bath tubs can be handled in a similar way to metal bath-tubs. The removal of individual plastic bath-tubs from the package can now also be done by one person. The risk of breakage in the area of the tub edge is excluded here by means of the supporting member, which guarantees suitable clearance between the tub and the top of the pallet.
1. In the handling and storage of plastics bathtubs, the tubs are stored upright and nested into one another on a pallet or the like, and a tub is carried essentially by a supporting member which is fitted to the tub body behind the individual tub edge and which is dimensioned in such a way that the delicate tub edge, which is tip-stretched on the tub body, is supported with clearance from the top of the pallet or the like and forms a limiting means for limiting its insertion into an adjacent tub.
2. Bath tub according to Claim 1, wherein the supporting member is composed of a block-shaped
