Abstract
A hand-held pocket projector for microslides or filmstrips is disclosed. The projector comprises a casing made up of two circular parts 1 and 2 and a tubular member 3 which fits into cooperating openings provided in the circular parts. The tubular member houses the optical system made up of a battery-powered lamp, objective and optional condensers. A switch 7 controls the power supply. Inside the casing, an annular track is provided for guiding an endless or circular filmstrip past a toothed wheel or sprocket 9 which is manually operated to advance the filmstrip. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A pocket projector for filmstrips
This invention relates to pocket projectors for microslides, and more particularly to a pocket projector which projects upon any surface from a series of microslides disposed sequentially in a continuous form one after another to form an endless film.
According to the invention, there is provided a pocket projector for filmstrips, comprising: a casing having two parts, said casing having first and second openings therein; a generally tubular element housing an optical system including a lamp and a lens, said tubular element being fitted in the first opening in said casing; a battery mounted in one of said casing parts for supplying electrical power to said lamp; a switch mounted on said casing and connected in circuit with said battery and said lamp; a toothed wheel rotatably mounted in said casing and extending at least partly through said second opening, said toothed wheel being adapted to be operated bv hand; and means disposed in said casing interior for guiding a filmstrip in a circular path across the optical axis of said optical system, said toothed wheel being adapted to engage said filmstrip and advance the same along said circular path for projection and viewing.
A projector embodying the invention thus comprises a casing formed by two joined parts.
The edge of the casing and a corresponding part of one of the casing parts form an opening for receiving the optical system of the projector. This optical system incorporates a lamp, condensers and the objective, which are mounted in an elongate element.
The battery cells which constitute the power source are mounted on one of the casing parts.
The other casing part is provided with means to facilitate the fastening of the film, which is an endless film in ring form.
Preferably, the casing is also connected to both sides of the elongate element housing the optical system. The optical system is controlled by the switch which turns off the lamp when the projector is not being used to produce a projection. The hand-operated toothed wheel permits the changing of images by making the film advance.
The band of slides can be left open for the purpose of facilitating its overall maintenance and then the band can be closed to form a ring or carousel. The ring is easily located on the corresponding part of the casing and may be stopped by the toothed wheel when the wheel is activated from the outside.
The elongate element which incorporates the optical system has a substantially tubular shape and, although its fastening is effected by engagement, it can simply be fitted or securely mounted in a hinged form on top of the corresponding part of the casing.
Among other advantages which may be achieved by a projector embodying the present invention are the following:
a) The projector embodying the invention has a reduced size and consequently occupies very little space, being of a size that can be held in the palm of the hand.
b) The projector is independent of external electrical energy, being fed by batteries disposed internally.
c) Operation and handling of the projector is simple, the operator being able to carry out the projection as well as the changing of slides with the fingers of his hand holding the projector.
d) The projector can provide images of great quality, depending on the form of the condensers which are disposed in the projector, and the ambient light.
The microslides used are preferably Super 8 film photographs, which have an area of 21.5mm2, the consecutiv ly printed photographs being perforated cinematographic films, in bands of a predetermined length, in accordance with the interior dimensions of the projector.
In order that the invention may be readily understood, an embodiment thereof will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a projector embodying the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of one of the parts which constitute the casing of the projector;
FIGURE 3 is a top plan view of the other part of the casing;
FIGURE 4 is an axial cross-section of the elongate longitudinal element which incorporates the optical system; and
FIGURE 5 is a side view of the elongate element of the projector.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that the projector embodying the invention comprises a casing formed by two parts 1 and 2 respectively, and an elongate longitudinal element 3 which incorporates an optical system. The elongate element 3 of the optical system is fitted in the openings 4 and 5 presented respectively by the casing parts 1 and 2.
Casing part 1 is provided with means for permitting the mounting of the batteries 6 which provide the power source. The electrical supply from the batteries 6 may be turned on and off by means of a switch 7, which is also disposed in an opening and is mounted on top of casing part 2.
Part 2 is provided with guide means 10 which forces film 11 to mesh with the teeth or sprockets of a drive wheel 9 and with annular ring means 12 to guide the film inside the casing.
The longitudinal element 3 includes a tubular zone 1 3 in which is disposed an objective lens 1 4 followed by an open-sided profile zone having a transverse section in the shape of a U where a socket 1 5 is connected. Socket 1 5 supports a lamp 16 which is a type of lens and the condensers which are deemed necessary are mounted in front of the lamp. Between the tubular zone 1 3 and the open-sided zone or U-shaped profile zone, element 3 is provided with slots 1 7 which permit the passage of the film 11.
