Description

SPECIFICATION Tool holder This invention relates to a tool holder.
There are known small tool packages such as screw-driver or drill-bit kits which are marketed in plastic pouches in a holder which is often rolled up. Such holders are basically marketing packages or devices for keeping one set of tools together.
According to the present invention, there is provided a tool holder comprising an elongate backing sheet, a plurality of flapless pouches made of a transparent plastics material attached to one face of the backing sheet, and fixing means for releasably connecting the tool holder to a support such that the other face of the backing sheet is opposed to the support.
The pouches may be glued or sewn to the backing sheet. Preferably the backing sheet is also made of a plastics material, and pouches may then be heat welded onto the backing sheet. Each pouch may be affixed to the backing sheet as a single "patch", or alternatively the pouches may be formed by attaching segments of a continuous strip of transparent plastics material to the backing sheet to define the pouches. The pouches may be formed as flat unopened pockets, or may be raised during the manufacturing process to form permanently opened pouches. Alternatively, the pouches may be formed with gussets. It is desirable for the material of which the backing sheet is made to be opaque in order that the tools in the pouches may be recognised more easily.
Various shapes and sizes of pouches may be formed along the length of the tool holder for holding different size tools. However, it is preferable for the pouches to be in line with one another to form a single row across or down the tool holder. The tool holder may either be manufactured to a given length (or series of lengths) or may be brought as a given length of a roll. In this latter case particularly, it is preferable for the configuration of the pouches along the tool holder to have a finite repeat distance--for example 1 metre.
The fixing means for releasably connecting the tool holder to a support such as a wall may take the form of eyelets inserted into the backing sheet at fixed intervals so that the tool holder may be hung from hooks or nails on a wall. Alternatively, a wooden or plastics batten may be provided for fixing to the backing sheet above the pouches. The tool holder may then be fixed to the wall through the batten, thus spreading the load in the fixing points. The batten may be glued or welded to the backing sheet, or, if supplied separately, may be slotted through straps provided therefor on the backing sheet. Alternatively, the top edge of the backing sheet may be rolled over and heat welded to provide a sleeve into which the batten may be inserted.
Some or all of the pouches may be provided with identification means such as labels which may be printed or stuck onto the tool holder. Blank or coloured identification tags may either be preprinted and separately stuck onto the front of each pouch, or alternatively a strip of labels may be stuck or printed onto one backing sheet, for example in white.
The sides of the pouches may be bound for added durability, as may the external edges of the tool holder itself.
The tool holder may be designed to be attached to the support with its axis either substantially horizontal or substantially vertical. In this latter case, a single row of pouches may be provided arranged at an angle of substantially 45 to the axis of the tool holder and extending down the tool holder, the openings of the pouches being either all on the left hand side or all on the right hand side. Alternatively a double row of pouches may be provided.
For a better understanding of the invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a general view of one form of tool holder of the invention; and Figure 2 shows a general view of another form of the tool holder of invention: In Fig. 1, there is shown a tool holder in which pouches 1 of a transparent plastics material are arranged in a line along a backing sheet 2 of an opaque plastics material to which they are heated welded along three sides 3, 4, 5. These sides 3, 4, 5 and open side 6 of each pouch are reinforced by a coloured edging 7. The top edge 9 of the backing sheet 2 is rolled over and heat welded to form a sleeve 10 into which a batten (not shown) may be inserted for fixing the tool holder to a support. When the tool holder is mounted to the wall, the axis of the tool holder should be substantially horizontal.
Some or all of the pouches may be provided with a blank label 8 printed onto the backing sheet above the pouch.
In Fig. 2 there is shown a tool holder which is designed to be attached to a support with the axis of the tool holder substantially vertical. Again the tool holder has a series of pouches 1 each heat welded to the backing sheet 2 along three sides 3, 4, 5, the fourth side 6 being left open. All four sides of each pouch are again reinforced with a coloured edging 7. In this tool holder, the pouches are arranged in a double row, each pouch being at an angle of substantially 45 to the axis of the tool holder. The pouches may be labelled using blank labels 11 one of which is provided on each pouch. Instead of a sleeve through which a batten may be passed and fixed to a support, the tool holder shown in Fig. 2 is provided with eyelets 1 2 which may be used to hang the tool holder on nails or hooks on a wall (not shown).
