Abstract
New, retreaded or remoulded tyres have an abrasive-resistant coating added to the tread and/or sidewall to give a longer wear life. When the material wears thin it can be recoated. Different numbers of applications can be identified by colour coding the tyres. A suitable coating material is polyurethane resin.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Increase wear-life of tyres
The purpose of this invention is to add an abrasiveresistant coating to the tread and sidewall of any conventional tyre (whether new, retreaded or remoulded) to increase tyre wear-life.
The essential part of this invention is the spraying or painting with a cold or hot abrasive-resistant polymer and yet retain the tyre's normal characteristics; for example, spraying with a rubber/ polyurethane bonding agent followed by there- quisite number of coatings of cold or hot sprayed polyurethane. This treatment may be either be sprayed or painted onto the tyres with the vehicle in situ, by removing the wheel and spraying on separately, or after the tyre manufacturing process.
The number of applications on each tyre may be identified by impregnating the material by a colour code.
This application is suitable for all tyres - those fitted onto bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, motorcars, trucks (on and off road), tractors and aircraft.
I am claiming that the concept of adding an abrasive-resistant material, e.g. polyurethane, to the tread and/of sidewall of new, retreated or remoulded tyres increases the wear life.
The concept is independent of the method of application.
