Abstract

The invention provides (see Figures 4 and 6) a modular display arrangement for use in displaying printed matter and other merchandise. The display arrangement incorporates one or more pocket elements for holding printed matter or the other merchandise, the elements having a pocket in a lower part and a lip for hooking around parallel bars of a mounting element. In a preferred arrangement, the lip can hook either around a parallel bar alone or around the parallel bar and the upper edge of the pocket of another pocket element mounted above to secure it. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Modular display arrangements and elements therefor
Description The invention relates to modular display arrangements and elements therefor, for use particularly but not exclusively in displaying magazines, periodicals, sheet music and for holding quantities thereof for sale.
It is an object of the invention to provide a display arrangement which is modular in nature and uses standard, pre-manufactured magazine etc. retainer elements for assembly with a variety of mounting elements to provide a display arrangement of a desired overall appearance. It is another object of the invention to provide a display arrangement which can be used flexibly.
According to the invention there is provided a display arrangement including a pocket element and a mounting element with equidistant, parallel bars in which the pocket element has a lip for hooking over a first bar mounting element and an edge parallel to the lip for lying adjacent a second bar and if appropriate locating inside the lip of another adjacent pocket element. The lip is preferably continuous and extends over the width of the pocket element.
Using the invention the pocket elements can be secured in a simple manner.
Advantageously the pocket element is made of a resilient material so that the lip can spring into position over a bar and an edge. Suitably therefore the pocket element is made of a resilient plastics material.
Preferably the lip extends rearwards from a rear wall of the pocket element and the parallel edge is formed by a front wall at the front of the pocket element. Thus when the pocket element rear wall has substantially a height of twice the distance between the parallel bars, the pocket element can be hung from the bars at the front thereof to display the full height of the pocket elements in one mode of display with the parallel edges free or can be secured between successive bars to display on the upper half of the pocket element with lips and parallel edges interengaged. Alternatively the lips could be formed by the front wall to engage over a free edge formed buy a rear wall but this would preclude a free hanging mode of display.
The mounting members are preferably of a ladderlike structure and may be supported by stands on the floor, by brackets on the wall or be linked together along their sides to provide a number of vertical pocket element rows arranged side-by-side.
The display arrangement is simple yet can be easily adapted to suit a wide variety of display requirements.
The pocket elements and mounting elements may be sold separately and the invention is also intended to extend to pocket elements and mounting elements made and sold individually but suitable for combination at the point of sale in any desired manner.
Drawings Figure 1 shows a rear perspective view of a pocket element according to the invention; Figure 2 shows a front perspective view of the pocket element of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a ladder mounting element of the invention; Figure 4 shows a longitudinal section through a display arrangement of the invention in a mode in which pocket elements interengage; Figure 5 shows a partial front view of the arrangement of Figure 4; and Figure 6 shows a longitudinal section through a display arrangement in a mode in which the pocket elements hang free.
The pocket elements are the same in all the drawings although shown to a different scale. Each pocket element 2 has a rearwall 4 with a U-shaped lip 6, a front wall 8 with an upper edge 10 and sides 12 defining a pocket 14. The pocket elements may be moulded in one piece from a transparent plastics material and carry such identification marks, labels, etc. as are deemed suitable. The pocket elements 2 are intended to be combined with a mounting element 16 with elongate bars 18 and rungs or cross-bars 20. The mounting elements 16 may be fabricated from metal tubes or rods.
Figures 4 and 5 show a section through a pocket element/mounting element display arrangement with the pocket elements 2 between the rungs 20 and interengaging. Figure 5 shows how the lip 6 slips between the sides 12 to engage the edge 10.
This arrangement can be used in inclined and vertical attitudes.
Figure 6 shows a section through an arrangement with the pocket elements 2 lying on the rungs 20 at an intermediate position and free. The full height of the pocket element 2 can now be observed. This arrangement is generally used with the mounting element 16 inclined backwards.
The mounting elements 2 can be interconnected by clips or hinges. They may be secured to walls at the top to provide a wall display or be mounted on stands to provide afree-standing ortabletop display. The pockets can be filled with a supply of magazines and like articles.
In the interengaging mode, a lowermost pocket element 2 may be secured more firmly to a lower rung 20 at the front by a clip or other fastening device.
CLAIMS 1. A display arrangement including a pocket element and a mounting element with equidistant, parallel bars in which the pocket element has a lip for hooking over a first bar mounting element and an edge parallel to the lip for lying adjacent a second bar and if appropriate locating inside the lip of another adjacent pocket element.
2. A display arrangement according to claim 1 in which the lip is continuous and extends over the width of the pocket element.
