Tyre covers, making. - In a machine for winding a strip of canvas around two endless wires so as to form a lining for pneumatic tyres, the wires 38, Fig. 1, are passed over a drum 2, mounted on a shaft 3 and having two peripheral grooves, and under a half-drum 27 formed by a, set of rollers having two grooves each. The drum 27 is carried by a slide 29, acted upon by a weight 36 to maintain the wires 38 at the correct tension, and raised when desired by a rack and pinion operated by a lever 32 working over a sector 35. Rollers 44, which press the wires 38 against the drum 3, are carried by a lever 42 which is acted upon by a spring saop-piece 45. This stop-piece is carried by a lever 46, which normally projects outwardly from the machine. A reel 16 of canvas is mounted on a ring 15, Fig. 5, which is spherically seated in a ring 14 so that the inclination of the canvas to the wires 38 can be adjusted by means of screws 17. The ring 14 is rotated in a support 13 by elliptic gear sectors 21, 22, Fig. 4, thereon engaging corresponding sectors 23, 24 on a shaft 12, which also drives the drum 2 and is connected by a clutch 9 to a pulley 8, the clutch being operated by a pedal 47. The gear sectors 21 - - 24 impart to the reel 16 a constant angular rotation around the wires 38, and arc provided with shock-absorbing devices 25, 26. The support 13 and rings 14, 15 are gapped to allow of the insertion of the wires 38, which are maintained parallel by a distance-piece -11.
