Abstract

There is provided a hinge with a spring closing mechanism. The hinge was a hinge arm 2 which is connected by two hinge levers 5, 6 to a hinge casing 7 and by an adjusting screw 3, and a fastening screw 19 to a mounting plate 1. A pivoted lever 9 is provided which urges one hinge lever 5 into the closed position under the influence of a spring 12 which is braced between the lever 9 and the adjusting screw 3. It is thus unnecessary to provide a stop for preventing the adjusting screw 3 from turning when the door is opened. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A Hinge The invention relates to a hinge comprising a hinge casing or the like adapted to be inserted into a door wing and a hinge arm adapted to be anchored to a mounting plate by means of an adjusting screw, said hinge casing and said hinge arm, each, having two hinge axles, and further comprising two hinge levers, each of said hinge levers being pivotally mounted on a hinge axle in the hinge casing and on a hinge axle on the hinge arm, thereby hingedly connecting the hinge casing and the hinge arm, one of said hinge levers heing a two-arm lever engaging one end of a spring, preferably a coil spring, the other end of said spring resting against the hinge arm.
Hinges of the above-mentioned kind are frequently used in modern furniture construction.
It is one of their advantages, that a closing pressure is exerted on the closed or almost closed door, said closing pressure frequently replacing a separate holding device, e.g. a snapping device.
By means of such hinges it is, above all, avoided that doors, which have not been fully closed, remain open at a small angle to the closing plane.
It is a further advantage of the abovementioned hinges, that the hinge arm and, thus, the position of the door can be adjusted, when the latter is mounted.
It is the object of the present invention to improve a hinge of the above-mentioned kind.
According to the invention this is achieved by adapting the coil spring to rest, on the hinge arm side, laterally against the adjusting screw and'to press with its end on the side of the hinge lever, preferably by means of a tilting lever having a cam which guides the hinge lever against the hinge lever.
When supporting the spring in the manner provided by the present invention, a special stopping means for the adjusting screw is no more required. In conventional hinges such stopping means prevented that the adjusting screw was turned unintentionally, when opening the door, and that the hinge arm was moved from its correct position in respect of the mounting plate.
It is preferably provided that the coil spring engages the outer hinge lever.
A further embodiment of the invention provides, that the coil spring is pressed against the adjusting screw by means of a holding member fully or partly embracing the adjusting screw, said holding member being preferably made of plastics material. Such plastics members have the advantage of providing good support for the coil spring and, moreover, absolutely securing the adjusting screw.
A further embodiment of the present invention provides, that the holding member has two parallel side faces, their inner sides resting against the lateral flanges of the hinge arm. It is thereby prevented that forces are unintentionally exerted on the coil spring, when the adjusting screw is screwed in or out and that the coil spring is moved from its required position.
In the following an embodiment of the invention will be described in more detail by means of the figures of the drawing without being limited thereto.
Figure 1 shows a schematic sectional view of a hinge according to the present invention in the open position, and Figure 2 shows a schematic sectional view of a hinge according to the present invention in the closed position.
The hinge according to the present invention comprises a mounting plate 1 adapted to be fastened to the furniture side wall and carrying the hinge arm 2. The hinge arm 2 is anchored to the mounting plate 1 by means of the adjusting screw 3 and a fastening screw 1 9.
On its end directed towards the door wing, the hinge arm 2 has hinge axles 4, hinge levers 5, 6 being mounted on said axles 4.
The hinge further comprises a hinge casing 7 also carrying hinge axles 8. The hinge levers 5, 6 are pivotally mounted on said hinge axles 8.
The outer hinge lever 5 is a two-arm lever. A tilting lever 9 is also mounted on the hinge axle 4 for the inner hinge lever 6 on the hinge arm 2. On the side directed towards hinge lever 5, the tilting lever 9 is provided with a cam 9', the hinge lever 5 rests against said cam 9' by means of a bolt 10.
The tilting lever 9 has a pin 11 holding a coil spring 12. With its other end, the coil spring 12 rests against a bolt 1 3 of the holding member 14.
The holding member 14 is a plastics member of substantially square or rectangular external shape. It has a circular aperture 14' through which the adjusting screw 3 projects, i.e. the adjusting screw 3 is embraced by the holding member 14.
On the side of the hinge arm 2, the adjusting screw is mounted in a female thread 1 5 in the hinge arm 2. On the end directed towards the mounting plate 1, the adjusting screw 3 has a ring projection 1 6 extending into a corresponding Tshaped recess 1 7 of the mounting plate 1. The adjusting screw 3 is thereby anchored in the mounting plate 1.
The coil spring 12 acts on the adjusting screw 3 by means of the holding member 14 being made of plastics material and exerts the closing pressure on the hinge lever 5.
In order to prevent the coil spring 12 from being shifted, when turning the adjusting screw 3 to adjust the position of the hinge arm 2, the holding member 14 is provided with parallel side faces 1 8 resting against the inner sides of the lateral flanges 2' of the hinge arm 2.
As can be seen in the figures of the drawing, the cam 9' on the tilting lever 9 is designed in such a manner that a torque is exerted on the hinge lever 5 only in the closed position of the door resp. shortly before getting into the closed position (fig. 2). In the open position of the door the tilting lever 9 presses radially on the hinge axle 4, so that no torque is exerted and that no closing pressure is exerted on the door wing.
