Abstract

A rollermill having a casing (10) including upper and lower doors to provide access to the interior of the casing, respectively, above and below the grinding rolls, the lower door (12) being constructed as a pair of skins (13, 14) defining a cavity (17) therebetween and a closed pocket (19) within the cavity adapted to receive ballast material, the whole construction being such that the door can remain in its closed and fully opened positions without assistance, and in a partially opened position can be lifted and withdrawn from the casing. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to rollermills This invention concerns roilermills of the kind having a pair of driven grinding rolls disposed within a casing through which material to be milled is fed to the rolls, there being upper and lower doors in the casing to provide access to the interior thereof, above and below the rolls.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction for the lower door.
According to the present invention there is provided a rollermill having a casing including upper and lower doors to provide access to the interior of the casing, respectively above and below the grinding rolls of the rollermill, the lower door being hinged at the bottom and comprising an outer skin adapted when the door is closed to overlie an opening in the casing, and an inner skin attached to the outer skin and formed so as to project inwardly through said opening when the door is closed and to define a cavity between the two skins, there being means.attached to the inner skin to define a closed pocket adapted to receive and contain ballast material in such a position with respect to the pivotal axis of the door hinge as to enable the door to remain in the closed and fully opened positions without assistance.
Further according to the invention, the lower door includes end plates which extend between the said two skins at the side edges of the door, with channels formed in said end plates each having an open lower end to engage a hinge peg fixed to the rollermill casing and adapted to support the door and to enable it to be removed by causing the pegs to become disengaged from the channels.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is an end view of a rollermill lower door, made in accordance with the invention, in its closed position; Fig. 2 is an interior elevation of the door; Fig. 3 is a section taken on line Ill-Ill of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a section taken on line IV--IV of Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 5 is a section taken on line V-V of Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale.
In the drawings, there is shown a casing 10 of the rollermill having an upper door (not shown) and a lower door 12. The following description refers only to the lower door.
The door 12 comprises an outer skin 13 of generally rectangular shape having its upper edge and a major portion of its side edges curved inwardly as can be seen clearly in Fig. 4.
Ar, inner skin 14 is welded to the inner face of the outer skin 13 along the upper edge region thereof as indicated at 1 5. The skin 14 is bent along a line 1 6 to project inwardly with respect to the casing 10 so as to be generally inclined with respect to the skin 13, and at its lower end is curved outwardly to join the inwardly curved lower edge of the skin 13 to which it is welded.
A cavity 1 7 is thus formed between the outer and inner skins 1 3 and 14 respectively. Welded to the inner surface of the inner skin 14 within the cavity 1 7 is a plate 1 8 which thus forms a closed pocket 19 within the cavity 1 7. As can be seen from Fig.1 the pocket 1 9 is disposed in the lower region of the door towards the inner face thereof.
A pair of end plates 20 are welded to and between the outer and inner skins 13 and 14. In the lower region of the door the plates 20 are of increased thickness as indicated at 21 and each includes a channel 22 which is open at its lower end for a purpose to be described. An aperture 23 is provided in one end plate 20 which communicates with the interior of the pocket 19, so that the pocket can be filled or partially filled with ballast material such as lead shot and the aperture 23 can be closed by a removable plug.
Each end plate 20 includes a projection 24 which extends downwardly beyond the lower limit of the door for a purpose to be described.
Attached to the inner skin 1 4 of the door at 30 is a bracket 31 carrying a flexibie and resilient flap 32 which extends inwardly from the lower region of the door so as to direct any stray stock flowing downwardly through the rollermill, away from the area below the door. This ensures that there can be no escape of dust or stock from the casing, at the bottom of the door.
A handle 25 is attached to the outer skin 13 close to its upper end.
The opening for the door in the rollermill casing 10 includes adjacent its bottom corners a pair of pegs 26 onto which the door is lowered to cause the pegs to become engaged within the channels 22. Further pegs 27 are provided which act as stops and engage the projections 24 when the door is in its fully open position as indicated in chain dotted lines 28.
It will be seen that the ballast material in the pocket 19 moves across the pivotal axis of the door when it is opened so that the door will remain in its closed and fully opened positions without assistance. The angular formation of the channels 22 is such that when the door is partially open, at about its balanced position, it can be lifted to cause the pegs to leave the channels so that the door can be removed from the casing 10.
The wholly welded construction of the door, and the properties of the materials used in its construction are so selected that the door when in its fully open position can support the weight of an operator. In this way, the operator can use the door as a platform upon which to stand to gain access to positions at the top of, or above, the rollermill.
It is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations in shape and configuration being possible without departing from the scope of the invention.
