Non-metallic elastic bodies; tread surfaces.-Solid rubber tyres having transverse non - skid grooves 5 in the tread are provided with hollow passages 6, 7, 8 passing either completely or substantially completely through the tyre, the radial distances between successive series of these passages being such that the next series become operative as non-skid devices before the set in use are worn away completely. The grooves and passages are disposed, as far as possible, so that the distances between adjacent grooves and passages are approximately equal.
