Abstract
A suspension device is provided for mounting a piece of furniture 1, 2, 20 on a wall. A hook member 11 is mounted on a vertical spindle 6 and by turning the spindle 6 the position of the hook member 11 in respect of the height of the piece of furniture 1, 2, 20 can be altered. Turning of the spindle 6 occurs by means of a mitre gear 8, 9. The spindle 6 is tiltably mounted in a supporting member 3 which is fastened directly to the piece of furniture 1, 2, 20. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A suspension device, particularly for wall-units
The invention relates to a suspension device, particularly for wall-units, comprising a supporting member adapted to be fastened to the wall-unit and a hook member adapted to engage a wall hook or the like, said hook member being adjustable relative to the supporting member by means of a spindle being mounted in bearings on the supporting member.
Suspension devices of the above-mentioned kind have been frequently used in modern furniture construction. It is their task to provide the possibiiity of fastening wall-units to a wall and particularly to allow adjustment in order to overcome tolerances which may be caused by mounting wall hooks or the like.
Such devices should particularly allow a later adjustment of the position of the wall-unit in the height and in the direction to the wall.
It is, therefore, the object of the present invention to provide a wide range of adjusting possibilities and, particularly, to allow adjusting tools, e.g. screwdrivers, to be inserted. It is important, that the suspension device is almost exclusively arranged in the corners defined by the side wall, top panel and rear panel of the wall-unit.
According to the invention this is achieved by providing a spindle which is rotatable by means of an angular gear, whereby the hook member being mounted on the spindle by means of at least one, preferably two female threads is adjustable in the vertical line.
It is of advantage, if the angular gear has two toothed bevel wheels, one of said wheels being rigidly connected with one end of the spindle, preferably with its lower end, the other of said wheels being rectangularly positioned to the spindle and being rotatable by means of a screwdriver or the like.
The working point of the screwdriver in respect of the wall-unit remains unchanged during adjustment, so that no space problems will occur during adjusting operations. The range of adjustment only depends on the length of the spindle.
It is preferably provided, that the hook member is substantially U-shaped and has two parallel flanges through which the spindle projects, the rim of the upper of said parallel flanges of the hook member being bent downwards and a recess being provided on said bent rim.
A further preferred embodiment provides that a supporting screw projects through the connecting center flange of the hook member, said screw being normally aligned with the spindle. It can further be provided, that the supporting screw is mounted in a female thread in the hook member and projects through a slot in the supporting member, which is normally aligned with the spindle. The supporting screw is provided with projections resting against the supporting member. This has the advantage that the supporting screw for the adjustment in the vertical direction to the wall is immediately adjacent to that area of the suspension device which engages the wall hook.
It is further provided that a U-shaped bow is arranged on the supporting member, the spindle projecting into the center flange of said bow and a pin belonging to the second toothed bevel wheel being mounted in bearings in the side flanges of said bow. This embodiment provides a particularly stable mounting of the spindle.
As the suspension device in accordance with the present invention is very narrow, it has the advantage of being arranged on the external side of the wall-unit, i.e. in the corner defined by the top panel, side panel and rear panel of the wall-unit, as already mentioned. The suspension device can be fastened outside the actual space of the wall-unit, if the top panel and preferably also the side panel project, as usually, over the rear panel of the wall-unit. This means that the device is completely covered, when the wall-unit is mounted. Only small apertures for inserting adjusting tools remain uncovered, but they can be easily covered by means of plastics caps or the like.
In the following an embodiment of the invention will be described in more detail by means of the figures of the drawings without being limited thereto.
Figures 1 and 2 show a schematic side view and a schematic front view of a suspension device in accordance with the present invention.
The suspension device in accordance with the present invention is arranged in the wall-unit immediately below the top panel 1 and sits close to the side wall 2, whereby the supporting member 3 of the suspension device rests against the top panel 1 and is laterally fixed to the side wall 2, e.g. screwed thereto by means of a screwdriver. A U-shaped bow 5 is fastened to the lower side of the supporting member 3, a spindle 6 being mounted in the center flange 5' of said bow and a pin 7 carrying a toothed bevel wheel 8 being mounted in the two parallel flanges 5" of said bow.
The spindle 6 also has a toothed bevel wheel 9 on its lower end which mates the toothed bevel wheel 8.
The hook member 10, which is a U-shaped bow, is mounted on the spindle 6. As can be seen in Figure 2, the hook member 10 is secured against rotation by means of the supporting member 3, so that it is moved in the direction of double arrow H by turning the spindle.
The spindle 6 thereby projects through the two parallel flanges 11 of the hook member having corresponding female threads 12.
The upper parallel flange 11 has a rim 13 which is bent downwards and adapted to engage a rail fastened to the wall, when the wall-unit is mounted.
If wall hooks are provided on the wall instead of fastening rails, said wall hooks engage the recess 14 which is placed on the bent edge of rim 13 and of the upper parallel flange 11 of the hook member 10.
The supporting member 3 has a slot in the area of the hook member 10, said slot extending parallel to the spindle 6. A supporting screw 17 projects through said slot 16, said screw 17 being mounted in a female thread 18 of the hook member 10. By turning the supporting screw 17, the wall-unit can be pushed away from the wall. For this purpose the supporting screw 17 is provided with projections 22.
The toothed bevel wheel 8 can be turned by means of a screwdriver which engages a projection 19.
Thereby the toothed bevel wheel 9 and the spindle 6 are also turned, and the adjustment of the hook member 10 in the vertical line is effected.
The rear panel 20 of the wall-unit has recesses 21 which allow adjusting tools to be inserted.
Figure 1 shows the axles of the spindle 6 and of the screw 17 in their maximum pivoted position in a dot-dash line.
