Abstract

Game apparatus for use in playing a game based on the game of "Pool" comprises a plurality of numbered and/or coloured indicia representing balls of a "Pool" set, means for selectively obscuring each indicium and random number/colour generating means for generating numbers/colours corresponding to the numbers/colours of the ball representing indicia. The apparatus comprises a rectangular board having a recessed playing area (20), a row or rows of indicia (B), conveniently seven circles numbered 1-7 and each of a different colour, one circle coloured black and numbered 8, and seven circles numbered 9-15 each carrying a stripe of a different colour on a white background. Random colour/number generating means comprise two pairs of dice (D, D') each pair having two faces blank, the remainder numbered/coloured to correspond to the indicia. "Pocketing" of a particular ball is represented by obscuring the corresponding indicium conveniently by a slidable cover (25) having a fingerpiece (26) whereby it can be slid from retracted position exposing the indicium to forward position in which the indicium is covered. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Game apparatus This invention relates to a game apparatus for use especially, but not exclusively, by children, in playing a game based on the game of "Pool". Usually "Pool" is played on a billiards table with a set of balls comprising two different groups, and each player or team tries to pocket in rotation the opponent's group of balls.
According to the present invention, apparatus for playing a game based on the game of "Pool" comprises a plurality of numbered and/or coloured indicia representing balls of a "Pool" set, means for selectively obscuring each indicium and random number/colour generating means for generating numbers/ colours corresponding to the numbers/colours of the ball representing indicia.
In a preferred embodiment the apparatus comprises a board, conveniently rectangular having a playing area, a row or rows of numbered and/or coloured indicia representing the fifteen balls of a "Pool" set, displaceable means for individually covering each indicia, and two sets of dice as the random number/colour generating means. The latter bear numbers/colours corresponding to the numbers/colours of the ball representing indicia.
Preferably, the indicia are circles coloured and numbered to correspond with the balls used in a conventional game of "Pool" i.e.
seven balls numbered 1-7 and each of a different colour, seven balls numbered 9-15 each carrying a stripe of a different colour on a white backgound, and one black ball which carries the numeral 8.
One set of two dice carries the numbers 1-8 (two faces on each dice are blank) and the numbered faces may be coloured to represent the corresponding indicia. Similarly, the other set of two dice is correspondingly numbered and coloured 8-15.
Two people or teams can play, one person or team being allocated the high numbered (9-15) dice, and the other the low numbered (1-7) dice. In use the dice are alternately rolled in the playing area by each team, and the winner is the team which first covers all their respective indicia, finishing with that numbered 8, as determined by throws of the dice.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a game board, Figure 2 is a perspective view of dice for playing the game, and Figure 3 is development of the dice showing all the numbered/coloured faces.
Referring to said drawings, the board comprises a rectangular playing area 20 bounded by walls 21 and the top part whereof includes a raised portion 22 divided into fifteen rectangular areas 23 each of which bears an indicium B representing a pool ball, the representative balls being numbered (1-15) and coloured as shown, i.e. in accordance with the balls of a conventional "Pool" game. The areas 23 are bounded at each side by guide members 24 in which are located slide covers 25 having fingerpieces 26 whereby each can be individually moved from a retracted position in which the respective indicium B is fully exposed to a forward position in which the indicium is covered.
Two sets of two dice D, D', are provided as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, one set D carrying on its faces representations of the indicia B numbered 1-7 and the other set D' carrying representations of the indicia B numbered 9-15. Each of the dice has two blank faces.
As will be understood other random number or/and colour generating means may be used in place of dice, as for example rotary pointers moving over circular dials.
The game may be played using the following set of rules: 1. Toss coin to decide which player commences, winner choosing high (D) or low (D') dice.
2. The players throw the dice alternately, the slide covers 25 being moved in accordance with the numbers/colours shown by the dice.
3. If the 8/black ball is thrown before the end of a game, this constitutes a foul throw and any already covered indicia are uncovered.
4. The player who first covers all his indicia, finishing with the 8/black indicium, is declared the winner.
These or other desired rules of play may be marked on the front face 28 of the raised rear part 22.
The board may include a housing for the random number/colour generating means.
