Abstract

202,802. Ashmore, H. July 5, 1922. Helical springs. - A mounting for upholstery springs comprises a plate or cap 2 having a hollow peripheral rim 3 to which the terminal coil of the spring is attached and slots 5 in the sides, diametrically opposed, for attachment of the foundation webbing which may be metallic strip. The Figure shows a mount for the lower end of the lower spring 1, having a continuous rim with a gap 8 through which the spring is brought out. Holes 7 are provided for attachment of links, chains or the like to connect adjacent springs. At the top of the upper spring is shown a form of mount composed of two annular discs between which fabric of the seat upholstery, wire mesh, or the like, is held by interlocking lugs 12 on the inner periphery of the disc when these are clinched over the opposite disc. The spring is held by the lugs 13 on the outer periphery of the lower disc. At the intermediate mount, lugs 13 are provided on both discs to hold the two springs. In a modification, the lugs for holding the springs are cut inwards from the periphery and turned outwardly over the end coil of the spring 1. In a further modification, the clips are made separately and may be secured by spot welding.
