Abstract

Tipping - apparatus. -In side-tipping apparatus, the wagon is held and tipped by hauling on a pair of ropes 23 each connected through an equalizing bar to a pair of ropes 22<a>, 22<b> which are secured to a clamping- bar 25 and pass round coaxial guide - pulleys 20b so as to form a loop around the wagon, the rope 22a passing over a guide-pulley 20. The wagon is supported during tipping by a bolster 14 pivoted at 16 on arms 11 pivoted at 12 on fixed standards 13. The cradle 18, which carries the rail beams 19 and the guide-pulleys 20, 20<b>, is pivoted on the arms 11 at 17. The ends of the rail beams 19 normally rest on the ground so that the tipping-apparatus is relieved of the weight of moving traffic. On hauling the ropes 23, the clamping-bars 25 are brought down on to the wagon and the cradle 18 then turns about the pivot 17 until the wagon engages the bolster 14. The cradle then turns about the pivot 12, emptying the wagon and raising a counterweight 32. On releasing the ropes 23, the apparatus is righted by the weight 32, a small weight 28 serving to release the clamping-bars. When the bolster 14 is arranged above the pivot 12 as shown, the weight of the parts 11, 18, 19 helps to balance the weight of the loaded wagon during tipping. In a modification, Fig. 7, the arms 11 are pivoted at 12 on brackets in a rotary frame 34 mounted on rollers 35. The wagon is tipped about the centre of the frame 34. The movement is limited by a stop 36, and a counterweight 38 is connected to each frame 34.
