Abstract

The invention is concerned with support racks useful, for example, for displaying material such as publicity and/or information literature, e.g. estate agents' literature. The support rack has a back groove 3 and a front groove 4, the back groove being adapted to carry a backing member 13 in a first position and the front groove being adapted to carry a front member 14 in a second position, said positions being such that material 15, such as said literature, may be retained interposed between the backing and front members. Access to the literature for removal may be effected by simple separation of the front member from the back member. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to support racks This invention relates to support racks useful, for example, for display of publicity and/or information material.
The present invention provides a support rack having a back groove and a front groove, the back groove being adapted to carry a backing member in a first position and the front groove being adapted to carry a front member in a second position, said positions being such that material may be retained interposed between the backing and front members.
Preferably, the front groove is additionally adapted to carry the front member in a third position such that, when the front member is in the third position, material is not retained interposed between the backing and front members.
The support rack of my invention is particularly useful for displaying material such as publicity and/or information literature, e.g.
estate agents' literature. Thus, such literature may be retained between the backing and front members in the support rack constituting a component of a display unit and the front member itself may, if desired, carry publicity and/or information material.
Access to items of such literature for removal, may be effected by simple separation of the front member from the back member. In the abovementioned preferment, the front member may be moved to the third position to facilitate such removal.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, the back grrove is adapted to carry a flat backing plate at a first angle to the horizontal and the front groove is adapted to carry a flat front plate at a second angle to the horizontal, wherein the second angle is less than the third angle. Preferably, the front groove is additionally adapted to carry the front plate at a third angle to the horizontal, which third angle is greater than the second angle. The third angle is preferably a right angle.
The invention will now be particularly described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of a support rack according to my invention; Figure 2 is a side elevation corresponding to Fig. 1 but showing front and backing plates in position; and Figure 3 is a front elevation corresponding to Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the support rack comprises a substantially rectangular block 1 whose upper surface 2 has two longitudinal grooves: a back groove 3 and a front groove 4. The back groove 3 is defined by a bottom surface 7 and two surfaces 5 and 6, each of which are at the same angle to the horizontal, which angle is less than a right angle. The front groove 4 is defined by a bottom surface 8, two vertical surfaces 9 and 10 and a surface 11 at an angle to the horizontal less than a right angle, and less than the angle to the horizontal of surfaces 5 and 6 by about 1 0,. The surfaces 10 and 11 intersect at a step 12.
In operation of the support rack shown in the drawings and refering specifically to Figs.
2 and 3, the back groove 3 carries a flat backing plate 1 3 constructed, for example of glass. The front groove 4 carries, resting along its angled surface 11, a flat front plate 14, constructed, for example, of metal. Interposed between the two plates 1 3 and 14 and retained therebetween at their point of closest contact is publicity literature 1 5. In order to gain access to the literature 1 5 for removal, the front plate 14 is pivoted over the step 1 2 in the front groove 4 so that it takes up the position shown in Fig. 2 as 14', ie, supported by surfaces 4, 9 and possibly 10 of the front groove 4. Thus, the front plate 14 does not have to be removed from the rack. When literature 1 5 has been removed, the front plate may readily be moved from its position as shown by 14' to its position as shown by 14 in Fig. 2, in order to retain any remaining or fresh literature 15, between itself 14 and the backing plate 1 3.
A support rack as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 may be conveniently mounted on a display board by conventional fixing means. Also, a plurality of such support racks may be mounted on a single display board to enable display of a plurality of sets of literature.
