Abstract
Fabric for articles of clothing, such as women's clothing, is in a piece (T) of a size sufficient to allow cutting of at least one article of clothing therefrom. The piece (T) of fabric is provided with removable lines corresponding to several sizes of at least one pattern for an article of clothing obtainable from the fabric. The lines may be erasably printed on the fabric itself or they may be printed on a removable paper layer (A) adhered to the fabric. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Fabric for articles of clothing
This model relates to a fabric for articles of clothing, such as women's clothing, which in a piece of sufficient size for cutting at least one article of clothing comprises several erasable lines corresponding to several sizes of at least one pattern for the article of clothing obtainable from the fabric. In this manner, it is possible in the home to cut and then sew up an article of clothing of the required size, and possibly of a choice from alternative patterns. As the cutting lines are erasable, any remaining marks are easily removed.
The pattern lines for the various different sizes differ by the form of the line (continues, dashes of various types, dots and dashes, etc.) or by the colour. A different of this type can also be used for printing different patterns.
In one embodiment, the lines can be printed erasably directly on to the fabric.
In another embodiment, the fabric is joined to a self-adhesive paper layer which, in a piece having a size sufficient for cutting at least one article of clothing, comprises several printed lines corresponding to several sizes of at least one pattern for an article of clothing obtainable from the fabric.
The accompanying drawing shows some embodiments.
Figure 1 shows a piece of fabric for an article of clothing, illustrating a pattern in several sizes printed on the back.
Figure 2 shows part of a piece of fabric with self-adhesive paper partly raised, and on which a set of sizes of the same pattern is printed.
Figure 3 shows the article with the self-adhesive paper after cutting along the chosen lines to obtain the individual components.
As can be seen from Figure 1, a piece Tffabric sufficient for one article of clothign (such as a woman's dress) comprises - in particular on the back - lines which differ in their form and which indicate the contour of the pieces for forming the same article of clothing in three different sizes, for different body measurements.
Thus, without any particular skill, the article of clothing of the required size can be cut in the home by following the corresponding lines indicating the contours of the article. The manufacturer markets only one article for several sizes, and this represents a simplification. The article can be accompanied by a fashion illustration to clarify the appearance of the article once made up, and by the necessary instructions for its making up.
For ease of inspection, and to avoid damaging the fabric on the visible side, the pattern is advantageously printed on the back, as generally a design printed on the front of the fabric is either only poorly visible or invisible. It is however possible to print the various designs on the front, using erasable colours.
The characteristic points of different components to be joined together are marked in an equal manner - using letters, numbers or other markings - along the cutting lines, so as to give the person concerned (who may be inexpert) a reliable guide to the correct joining-up and consequent correct sewing. Corresponding markings are provided at particular geometrical points (corners, intermediate points on curves, points where sewing begins) and along continuous lines, to prevent or reduce errors due to different degrees of stretching.
In Figureds 2 and 3, a piece of fabric T sufficient for one article of clothing (such as woman's dress) is joined to a self-adhesive layer A which adheres relatively weakly, and which comprises different lines for indicating the contour of the pieces necessary for forming the same article of clothing in different sizes for different body dimensions. Besides being removable relatively easily, the selfadhesive layer A is also relatively light.
Without any particular skill, the article of clothing of the required size can be cut in the home by following the corresponding contour lines forthe article of clothing, which are ndicated on the joined layer A, which also stabilises the shape f the fabric T, this facilitating its cutting, and also keeping the fabric flat during cutting.
For practical reasons the self-adhesive layer is applied in only a loosely adhesive manner, so as to make its removal easy, and is preferably applid tothe back of the fabric to enable the design and colours of the fabric to be easily inspected.
The self-adhesive layer makes the fabric stable, even if of the type which cn yield as can certain types of knitted fabric.
Again in this embodiment, the characteristic points of different components to be joined together can be indicated along the cutting lines in an equal manner - by letters, numbers or other markings - to give the person concerned (even if inexpert) a reliable guide to the correct joining and consequent correct sewing. Corresponding markings can be provided at particular geometrical points (corners, intermediate points of curves, starting points for sewing) and along continuous lines to prevent or reduce errors due to different degrees of stretching.
For this, it is advisable to leave the self-adhesive layer applied during the tacking (temporary joining of the various pieces) or to remove the outer edges of the paper on sewing.
Different information for facilitating making-up of the article can be printed on the self-adhesive layer, in particular paper.
The self-adhesive layer is any layer of paper, plastics, non-woven fabric or the like prepared with a protected adhesive which is activated by heat, by pressure or the like, and possibly prepared extemporarily.
The manufacturer markets only one article for a number of sizes - and possibly for different patterns this representing a simplification. The article can be accompanied by a fashion illustration to clarify the appearance of the article once made up, and the necessary instructions for its making-up.
More than one pattern, each in a number of sizes, can be printed on the fabric or on the self-adhesive layer of the same fabric.
The lines relating to different sizes of one pattern can differ from the lines relating to different patterns either by colour or by using different forms of line for tracing the various markings relating to the different sizes or different patterns.
The component pieces of more than one article of clothing, such as for mother and daughter or for two brothers, can be printed on the same piece of fabric.
Claims (12)
1. Afabric for articles of clothing, such as women's clothing, which in a piece having a size sufficient for cutting at least one article of clothing comprises several removable lines corresponding to several sizes of at least one pattern for an article of clothing obtainable from the fabric.
2. A fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lines are erasably printed on the fabric.
3. A fabric as claimed in claims 1 and 2, wherein the cutting lines are produced at least on the back of the fabric.
4. A fabric as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lines are printed on a removable paper layer, especially self-adhesive.
5. A fabric as claimed n claims 1 and 4, wherein the layer is applied to the back of the fabric.
6. Afabric as claimed in claims 1 to 5, wherein the lines indicating different sizes differ from each other by the form of the line (continuous, different dashes, dots and dashes and the like).
7. Afabric as claimed in claims 1 to 5, wherein the lines indicating different sizes differ in colour.
8. A fabric as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein several patterns are printed, and differ in one of the aforesaid ways.
9. Afabric as claimed in the preceding claims, n which equal markings on components to be joined together indicate the points which have to correspond.
10. A fabric for articles of clothing, as claimed in the preceding claims, arranged to be sold in pieces of a sufficient size for one pattern or more, and which - because of the printed contours - can be made up by the purchaser even in the home and without any special cutting ability.
11. A fabric for creating an article of clothing, using patterns of various sizes in order to prepare the article, all as described and respresented.
12. Fabric substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
