Abstract

202,559. White, A. E., (Norwalk Tire & Rubber Co.). Nov. 8, 1922. Tyre covers, making.-Relates to a machine for applying the tread strip to a built-up cover foundation, the rubber strip 3 of the proper weight having been first stretched to the required length and faced with a strip 9 of non-extensible fabric. One end of the composite strip is applied to pins 21 normally projecting from a drum 30 which can be swung towards and from the rotary building-core 1. The drum is rotated and as the leading end of the strip 3 reaches and adheres to the material on the core, the pins 21 are retracted by the abutment of a cam 24 on the shaft 11 with a bell-crank 25 which is rocked to pull back the pins. The latter then are held retracted by a gravity-catch 26 during the continued laying-on of the strip 3.
