Abstract

A cleaning device for use in garbage chutes comprises a cage (1), a flywheel (6) within the cage rotatable with a tubular spindle (7) communicating within the flywheel with a plurality (preferably two) of radiating passages (8) each terminating at the periphery (9) of the flywheel in a nozzle (10) inclined to the radial, a rotary fluid coupling (11) between the tubular spindle (7) and a connection (12) for a pressure hose at one end of the cage (1), and attachment means, such as a hook (13) for a suspending rope, chain or wire at the other end of the cage. The cage (1) preferably consists of a pair of intermediate rings (2) slightly larger in diameter than the flywheel (6), and three equispaced curved bars (3) welded to the rings (2) and lower and upper end rings (4, 5) respectively mounting the rotary fluid coupling (11) and the attachment means (13) respectively. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A device for cleaning garbage chutes etc This invention relates to a cleaning device for use, for example in garbage chutes, (e.g., in blocks of flats), or for vertical chutes, ducts, pipes etc.
According to the present invention, a cleaning device comprises a cage, a flywheel within the cage rotatable with a tubular spindle communicating within the flywheel with a plurality of radiating passages each terminating at the periphery of the flywheel in a nozzle inclined to the radial, a rotary fluid coupling between the tubular spindle and a connection for a pressure water hose at one end of the cage, and attachment means for a suspending rope, chain or wire at the other end of the cage.
Thus, with the device suspended on a rope, chain or wire extending downwardly, e.g., in a garbage chute, and with a pressure water hose connected to the rotary fluid coupling, the device can be moved, preferably upwardly, and water emitting under pressure from the nozzles causes rotation of the flywheel, so that the water impinges all round and washes down the dirt loosened by the impinging of the water on the surfaces at the level of the flywheel.
The cage preferably consists of a pair of intermediate rings with an internal diameter slightly greater than the external diameter of the flywheel, and three equispaced curved bars welded to the rings and converging in one direction towards an end ring mounting for the rotary fluid coupling and converging in the opposite direction to an end ring carrying the attachment means.
Two radiating passages and nozzles suffice for a balanced action with powerful cleaning.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device for cleaning garbage chutes; Figure 2 is a plan of the device of Fig. 1; and Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section generally on the line Ill-Ill of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, a device for cleaning garbage chutes comprises a cage 1 consisting of two intermediate rings 2 and three equispaced curved bars 3 welded to the rings 2 and converging to two end rings 4, 5, respectively, a flywheel 6 within the cage rotatable with a tubular spindle 7 communicating within the flywheel with two radiating passages 8 each terminating at the periphery 9 of the flywheel in a nozzle 10 inclined to the radial, a rotary fluid coupling 11 between the tubular spindle 7 and a connection 1 2 for a pressure water hose (not shown) below the lower ring 4 of the cage 1, and a hook 1 3 secured to the upper ring 5 of the cage for the attachment of a suspending rope, chain or wire (not shown).
With the device suspended on a rope, chain or wire extending down a garbage chute, and with a pressure water hose extending up the chute and connected to the rotary fluid coupling 11, the device can be moved upwardly so that water emitting under pressure from the nozzles 10 causes rotation of the flywheel, so as to impinge all round, and washes down the dirt loosened by the impinging of the water on the surfaces at the level reached by the flywheel.
1. A cleaning device comprising a cage, a flywheel within the cage rotatable with a tubular spindle communicating within the flywheel with a plurality of radiating passages each terminating at the periphery of the flywheel in a nozzle inclined to the radial, a rotary fluid coupling between the tubular spindle and a connection for a pressure water hose at one end of the cage, and attachment means for a suspending rope, chain or wire at the other end of the cage.
2. A cleaning device as in Claim 1, wherein the cage consists of a pair of intermediate rings with an internal diameter slightly greater than the external diameter of the flywheel, and three equispaced curved bars welded to the rings and converging in one direction towards an end ring mounting for the rotary fluid coupling and converging in the opposite direction to an end ring carrying the attachment means.
3. A cleaning device as in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein two radiating passages and nozzles are provided.
4. A cleaning device substantially as here inbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
