Description

SPECIFICATION Shower cabinet sliding door assembly This invention relates to a shower cabinet sliding door assembly comprising two or more doors which are suspended in an upper screen frame member by means of rollers, sliders or the like, and which are guided in a lower horizontal frame member which is provided with downwardly open grooves, each door having a lower horizontal member provided with a guide limb portion which engages from below into one of the grooves.
In a known shower cabinet sliding door assembly of this kind, the guide limb portions of the lower horizontal door members extend over the entire length of the door. As the limb portions are of relatively small wall thickness, achieving precise close fits over the entire length of the door gives rise to difficulties so that, in operation, jamming may occur between the parts of the guide limb portions which engage into the sliding grooves in the lower horizontal screen frame member, and the sliding grooves, and such jamming can detrimentally affect the ease of movement of the sliding door members.
According to the present invention there is provided a shower cabinet sliding door assembly, comprising two or more doors which are suspended in an upper frame member by means of rollers, sliders or the like, and which are guided in a lower horizontal frame member which is provided with downwardly open grooves, each door having a lower horizontal member provided with a guide limb portion which engages from below into one of the grooves, the guide limb portion of each door being provided with a recess which extends between two end portions, said end portions forming sliders.
The end portions of the guide limb portions may be provided with a shaped member formed of plastics material, which engages into the associated groove in the frame member.- As the end portions ofthe guide limb portions, which are in the form of sliders, are of only small length and small wall thickness, the end portions provide, as far as is required, for tolerance compensation with respect to the sliding grooves.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of an example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shower cabinet in which the sliding doors are in the closed position, Figure 2 is a view in section taken along the line Il-Il indicated in Figure 1, with sliding doors open, and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the lower part of the sliding doors.
The shower cabinet shown in Figure 1 has a door assembly which comprises three slidable doors 1, 2 and 3, at each side of the shower partition. The slidable doors 1, 2 and 3 are guided in an upper screen frame member 4 by means of rollers 5, and respectively have a lower horizontal member 6, 7 and 8, provided with a respective guide limb portion 9, 10 and 1 The guide limb portions 9, 10 and 11 have their free edge portions engaged into a respective groove 12, 13 and 14 provided in the lower horizontal screen frame member 15. The screen frame member 15 is fixed on the upper edge of a shower base 16.
The guide limb portions 9, 10 and 1 1 are provided with recesses 17, 18 and 19 respectively which are defined by respective end portions 20, 21; 22, 23; 24, 25. The end portions carry shaped members 26 formed of plastics material, which engage into the associated slide grooves 12, 13 and 14 and which move by a sliding motion in the slide grooves, when the sliding doors 1, 2, 3 are moved. The guide limb portions 9, 10 and 1 1 have a lower horizontal portion, and the recesses 17, 18 and 19 extend over the horizontal portions.
This arrangement ensures that any spray water which penetrates into the slide grooves can flow off into the shower base 16, as well as any debris (dirt) in the slide grooves which can flow away with the sprav water.
The rollers 5 can be replaced by slide members slidable along the tracks formed in the upper member 4.
1. A shower cabinet sliding door assembly, comprising two or more doors which are suspended in an upper frame member by means of rollers, sliders or the Fike, and which are guided in a lower horizontal frame member which is provided with downwardly open grooves, each door having a lower horizontal member provided with a guide limb portion which engages from below into one of the grooves, the guide limb portion of each door being provided with a recess which extends between two end portions, said end portions forming sliders.
2. A shower cabinet sliding door assembly as claimed in claim 1, in which the recess extends over a lower horizontal portion of the limb portion.
3. A shower cabinet sliding door assembly as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, in which the two end portions of each guide limb portion is provided with a shaped slide member formed of plastics material which engages into the associated groove in the frame member.
4. A shower cabinet sliding door assembly substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
