Abstract

Shutter plates (2,2') are provided to open and close at the bottom of a coin stacker tube(s) of a coin wrapping machine. The shutter plates are provided with recesses (10) or through- holes formed in portions of the lower surfaces thereof so that a support rod of the machine may approach closer to the lower surface of a stack of coins supported by the shutter plates. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Shutter plates of coin stacking tube used in a coin wrapping machine This invention relates to a coin wrapping machine, particularly to improvements in the construction of shutter plates associated with a stacker used in a coin wrapping machine.
In a conventional coin wrapping machine, shutter plates are formed of plates of relatively large thickness (generally about 3 mm) so that the shutter plates can withstand the impact of the coins dropping onto them. The top end of a support rod for supporting coins is positioned slightly below the lower surface of the shutter plates so that the coins will fall through a distance of approximately 4 to 5 mm when the shutter plates open. Further, the top end of the support rod is formed to have a diameter which is smaller than that of the coin. Accordingly, when the coins drop there is the possibility that they will be misaligned with respect to the support rod due to the dropping impact or, what is worse, they may slidingly fall off from the top end of the support rod.If the coins are misaligned with respect to the support rod, the stack of coins may, during downward movement of the support rod, collapse due to contact with the wrapping roller. In such cases, it is necessary to gather the dropped and scattered coins.
This requires interruption of machine operation and results in decreased efficiency.
The invention provides shutter plates for use in a coin wrapping machine and provided to open and close at the bottom of a coin stacker tube of such a machine, the shutter plates being provided with recesses or through-holes formed in portions of the lower surface thereof and adapted to receive the top end of a support rod which is provided for moving coins, which are stacked in the coin stacker tube, into the clearance between wrapping rollers, whereby the top end of the support rod can approach the lower surface of the stacked coins to the extent permitted by said recesses or through-holes.
Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description, by way of example, of preferred embodiments of the invention, the description being made with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure lisa perspective view showing the main portion of a coin wrapping machine of prior art; Figure 2 is a perspective view of shutter plates having recesses formed therein according to the present invention; Figure 3fa) is a sectional view of Figure 2, and Figure 3(b) is a sectional viewsimilarto Figure 3(a) of the main portion of another embodiment.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail with the reference to the accompanying drawings.
In a coin wrapping machine of prior art such as illustrated in Figure 1, coins of one denomination are separated from coins of other denominations in a coin counting section (not shown), counted in number, and then stacked in a stacker tube 1. Just under the stacker tube 1 are provided shutter plates 2a, 2b which are adapted to temporarily store the coins in the stacker tube 1, these shutter plates serving as a support for the coins. The shutter plates 2a, 2b are made of hardened steel plates of a uniform thickness, and are fixed to opening-closing cams 2a', 2b' so that the shutter plates can be moved in mutually opposite directions to perform opening and closing operations. Forthis purpose, the cam 2a' is connected through a lever 3 to a shutter solenoid 4.
Means for opening and closing the shutter plates is not limited to the above, and a motor and/or gears, for example, can alternatively be employed for opening and closing the shutter plates. When the shutter solenoid 4 is in the unexcited state, the shutter plates 2a, 2b are closed by a tension spring 5, as shown in Figure 1. Just under the shutter plates 2a, 2b are provided wrapping rollers 6, 7, 8 at least two of which are rotatable, and a support rod 9 which is capable of moving upward and downward to receive a stack of coins a from the interior of the stacker tube 1 and transfer this stack of coins into the group of wrapping rollers. The support rod 9 is also capable of retreating from the group of wrapping rollers when the wrapping of coins has been completed.Further, there are provided clasping claws (not shown) for clasping the opposite end portions of a wrapping paper in the verical direction during the coin wrapping step.
Coins which have been counted in the counting section are fed into the stacker tube 1. At this time, vibrations in the horizontal and vertical directions are applied to the stacker tube 1 and the shutters 2a, 2b by vibration means (not shown) to arrange the coins in a uniform state. When the counted number of coins reaches a number equivalent to a packaging unit, the counting section temporarily stops counting. When the coins are stacked in normal form, the coin support rod 9 moves to the position just under the shutters 2a, 2b. In a suitable timing relationship with the arrival of the coin support rod 9 at the position just under the shutters 2a, 2b, the shutter solenoid 4 is excited to open the shutters 2a, 2b and drop the stacked coins a downward onto the support rod 9.
The support rod 9 carring the stack of coins a moves downward into the group of wrapping rollers 6, 7, 8, whereupon the stack of coins is pressedly contacted by the wrapping rollers, 6,7,8 for rotation and is wound with a predetermined abount of wrapping paper which is then clasped and closed at its opposite end portions to wrap the stack of coins.
The shutter plates 2a, 2b are formed of plates of relatively large thickness (generally about 3 mm) so that the shutter plates can withstand the impact of the coins dropping onto them. The top end of the support rod 8 is positioned slightly below the lower surface of the shutter plates 2a, 2b so that the coins will fall through a distance at approximately 4 to 5 mm when the shutter plates 2a, 2b open. Further, the top end of the support rod 9 is formed to have a diameter which is smaller than that of the smallest coin.
Therefore, the shutters used in the coin wrapping machine of prior art has the above-mentioned disadvantates.
The perferred embodiments of the present invention will be now described with reference to Figures 2 and 3. According to the embodiments of Figures 2 and 3, shutter plates 2, 2' are provided with recesses 10 orthroughholes 1Q' in portionsthereofwhich correspond to the support rod 9 at the time that the support rod 9 is in the elevated position.
Accordingly, the top end of the support rod 9 can be elevated further and brought closer to the lower surface of the stack of coins than in the prior art.
Accordingly, in the present invention, the distance through which the stack of coins fall in being transferred onto the support rod is very smail so that collapse of the stack of coins can be avoided.
The shutter plates 2, 2' are not reduced in mechanical strength as would be the case if they were formed of thin plates. There are fewer malfunction to cause interruption of operation, so that the present invention is very efficient in practical use.
